The only character I find I can connect with on a regular basis would be Lizzie. I always feel for her when her sisters embarass her in particular - I wanna watch the BBC version again! I'm going to go off and bug my mom about it!

^ Nice new avvie there Mel!

Yeah. Like I said before, I am extrememly like Elizabeth in real life. The people I know who have read the book (which is not many), have said I remind her of them, And I do feel for her in the way her family humiliates her in public all the time. I'm mortified right along with her. I honestly do feel embarassed for her when I'm reading the book.
Jane is nice, but she is too nice. She's so nice she lets people take advantage of her and walk all over her. It's kind of frustrating to me to see that. I do like Jane though. I was so glad when she finally got together with Bingley in the end.

It really did annoy me how Mr Bingley left and Jane just accepted it like it was inevitable. I would have been so mad, I would have practically stalked him! But I guess her self-esteem was not that high. Anyway, yeah, I don't think I really resemble Lizzie, but she's still my favorite :D

Thanks! I searched ALL over the internet to find one of Will and Elizabeth kissing. You wouldn't believe how hard it was! Of course, there were plenty of Jack and Elizabeth...grrr...

The thign about Jane, the only thing that only sorta irked me is that she is TOO TOO nice.
Nobody's like that in real life. Com'on.

Actually, I know people just like Jane who are so nice that they just take what life gives them and don't do anything about it. It's really aggravating. Those people are usually like that their whole lives though.
Yeah I probably would have stalked Bingley too. LOL. I definitely would have gone after him and insisted on seeing him. As for Bingley, the stupe! How could he ever think Jane didn't love him? He is just like Jane. Too easily swayed. I could never marry a man like that. What is it that Mr. Bennett says to Jane near the end? Something like "You're each of you complying that every servant will cheat you, and so generous that you will always exceed your income." It was somethinhg like that. And it fits that way the Jane and Bingley will be exactly. But they'll also be very happy, so I'm glad for them. i liked their characters over all, if their genuine and complete niceness was a little irksome.

Yes, their characters are so nice...but TOO nice! Mr. Bennett is so right about that. My favorite character has to be either Darcy or Lizzie (typical, I know, but their characters are soo good!) but least favorite? Hm. Mr. Collins was creepy but funny too. I love to laugh at him. And Mrs. Bennett. But Mrs. Bennett BUGS me! She and Lydia have to be my least favorite, just because they are senseless and selfish.

The funny thing-I keep hearing everyone talk about how great the BBC one is. So I looked at my library, they have a BBC production. I rented it. It's not the same one that all of you have seen! How crazy is that?

^ That is really strange. I don't think I know of any BBC version of P&P except the miniseries. I'm confuzzled. Who was in it? Or what year was it made or something? I want to look this one up!
Actually, I really don't know who my least favorite character would be. The truth is, there are so may hateable characters in P&P! There are loveable ones too, but most of the are senseless and silly and vain, among other evils. It's kind of odd that I've never noticed that before. but the only ones everyone completely loves are Darcy and Lizzie!

Okay, I just saw Pride and Prejudice [2005] today, only a couple of hours or so ago. I've also read the book previously. I loved it to say the least!! The movie was absolutely brilliant, and I think it's one of the best roles I've ever seen Keira Knightly play. Not too mention, Mr.Darcy is extremely handsome... :swoon:

I've heard there's a different club for him though. :P

EDIT: Haha, I got so caught up in what I was saying that I forgot to ask if I could join.

^ I'm sure our dear webmaster will let you join Larael. She's kind of busy going away to college now I hear though, so I think it's just kind of safe to assume you can join.
I did like the 2005 version, although not as much as the BBC one. I was surprised at how well Keira Knightley did. I thought she was excellent in POTC, but I couldn't really see her as playing Elizabeth Bennett. She surprised me though. She did really well.
And pesonally, I didn't think the new Mr. Darcy all that handsome, but Colin Firth is quite handsome in the BBC version. :)
I'm still curious at to what that other BBC version was. So confused.
Welcome to the club by the way, Larael! Glad to have you! :)

It's actually a 1980 production with Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul as Lizzie and Darcy. It stuck really close to the book, and was pretty good, but rather slow at parts.

For some reason those names sound familiar. Have we talked about those before in here?

I've never heard of that one. Was it as good as the 2005 version, do you think?

I was actually kinda pleasantly surprised by the 2005 version. I mean, the BBC miniseries is WAY better, IMHO, but I've never been a big Keira Knightley fan and I thought it was going to be horrible. Loving Colin Firth like I do, I though the new Mr Darcy was a bit so/so, but it was pretty good other than the fact it went at a breakneck pace. Oh, and Wickham looked like Orlando Bloom.

I have hard times comparing movies. I loved the 2005 (I was suprised and pleased that Kiera did a birlliant job) and I adore Matthew-Darcy. I also thought it moved at a bit better pace, though people unfamiliar with the story might get confused.
The 1980 one was good, the characters were portrayed well, but it was pretty slow. It was nice to hear so many lines right from the book, but they had Lizzie thinking in some parts. As in, just sitting there with a v.o. of here speaking narratives right from the book. It got a bit boring. Also, in the 2005 one, you could see the love that Lizzie and Darcy finally had for each other, but in the 1980 once, it was all still so formal. They maybe smiled a little more, but they were so stiff and proper it was harder to tell they really liked each other.

So, after all that, I really don't know. I probably liked the 2005 better, but it's hard to choose.

^ I'll have to look into renting that one. It may not be as good, but it's still P&P, so I still want to check it out.
I didn't like Matthew-Darcy very much until the end. I didn't think he was nearly dark and brooding enough, nor arrogant. He didn't seem as upset when Lizzie refused him. In the end though, he was brilllaint. ;)
Probably the main reason I didn't like Matthew-Darcy that much is because I love Colin-Darcy. He was pretty much exactly as I pictured Mr. Darcy to be. I don't think they could have picked a better Mr. Darcy than him. He was perfect for the role. Appearance, acting, everything.
I agree that it is very nice when the movie takes lines directly from the book. The BBC version did that largely, with only a few deviations from the book. There were a couple of scenes in the movie that weren't in the book as well (i.e. Wet shirt), but I don't really mind those extra scenes so much. ;)
