Sam's my second favourite character as well. (Together with Eowyn. But that's another club.)

Ah! I'm currently reading LotR and I got to "The Black Gate Opens". At the passage where the Mouth of Sauron comes out and shows Frodo's clothes and tells what they are going to do with Frodo, I imagined for the first time what would exactly have happened to Frodo if he had been caught in Mordor. I nearly cried.

I know what you mean (even though it's been a while since i read it *gasp* and i can't remember clearly). When the Mouth of Sauron comes out in the movie, i get so mad when he starts talking about how much Frodo supposedly suffered, and seems perfectly happy about it...! I know that's what you can expect from a servant of the Dark Lord, but still...! I get very "Sam-ish" when it comes to Frodo.
Man, i've got to re-read those books! I've been contemplating the idea for a while, but i think you may have inspired me to finally do it...lol.

I love Sam. I'm glad he's our honorary member too. After all, if it weren't for him, Frodo probably wouldn't have survived his quest. "Frodo wouldn't have gotten far without Sam." Besides, anyone Frod loves that much has got to be special.
I get angry when reading the "Mouth of Sauron" part too. I get very Sam-ish when it somes co rodo too I think. Very defensive. I think people have learned not to say anything insulting about Frodo (or Lij for that matter) around me because I get so passionate about it.
One of the cool things about LOTR is that you discover something new each time you read it. It never gets old. Like Forever, you imagine fully how something would happen for the first time or something like that. Each time it nestles into you a little deeper. I love the books so much. You should defintitely re-read them Eariel. Then you can come join us over in the book section. It's rather lonely as of late. Not as many posts.And you can tell us everything new you feel/think/discover about Frodo!

I don't like to make a fuss of it when people say something i don't like about Frodo, but it still hurts nonetheless. I think at least some of my friends know that i do love him very much, though, even though i don't mention it very often.
You're right--anyone Frodo (or Lij ) loves has got to be special. I think Sam would qualify, lol.
Sometimes when i think about the scene where Sam carries Frodo up Mount Doom, it hits me anew what/how much he actually did for him in doing that, if you know what i mean? It's like when something you've come to take for granted strikes you again like lightning...
I'll read them again (of course, lol), hopefully soon.
Then i can join you in the book section...maybe before then, though, since i still remember a lot. I've got to go now, so post with you tomorrow!

Rereading the book is great! I decided to read it every year (like Christopher Lee) and every time I read it I discover new things!

Haha, I do mention that I love Frodo quite often; in fact all my friends know it very well and go crazy with it. But they seem to have decided to ignore my enthusiasm lately

Lol. For me, LotR is such a huge, emotionally demanding book that I don't know that i could read it very often, though i'm glad if that works for you and Christopher Lee. The first time I read it, I hadn't become a Ringer yet (at least, till somewhere in Ithilien ), so it went kind of...no, really slow. Then when I finished RotK (early 2003), it'd been so long since i'd read the Fellowship that I decided to read them all again. Plus, I wanted to have the story reasonably fresh in my mind when i went to see RotK at the end of that year. (That was torture...waiting desparately all year for it to come out *shudders at memory of such an ordeal* Well worth the wait, though!) Of course, I've read bits and pieces since then (I used to reread parts of the Mordor chapters all the time ), and I started the Fellowship last year (i think--didn't get much past the first half, though), but other than that it's taken a while for me to get the initiative to reread them all the way through. Not that i don't love the books--I do. It just wouldn't be good to force myself to read them again before i'm ready, if you know what i mean. (I know you're not trying to do that, though--just wanted to make sure you knew i wasn't thinking that. ) Plus, I've been going through some stuff that's made it hard to concentrate on things like that... That's kind of sad, but i think it's getting better, slowly.
Anyway, what do you say we extend the Frodo party to this thread as well as the E/F club? I mean, it's almost even more fitting to celebrate his b-day here than at my club, lol. (Though i'm glad we're party-ing there, too. )

Well, I guess we could party in both places. It's not as though Frodo doesn't deserve it! I just think it could get complicated, and we might run out of things to post! *gasp*
However, I've been thinking about the chewing. And the poem about the chewing. I haven't really had a lot of time for writing lately. School, volunteering, everything. It's making me crazily busy. but thinking about it, I thought perhaps we could make the writing a collaborative effort? Sort of brainstorm ideas and then make it into lines and put it all together? I don't know. It couldbe complicated. but it could be really fun as well. So what do you guys think? And please don't be afraid to say you'd rather not! I won't be hurt at all!
I understnad what you're saying about the books being emotionally demanding Eariel. They definitely are. I don't think I have read them yet this year. Although.... no wait. Yes I did. I remember now. I read them at the very beginnign of this year. Re-reading is definitely a good idea, but I think how often you do it depends on the person. Some people read LOTR all year round, some a few times a year, some people never re-read it. It doesn't mean you love them any more or less. It's just the kind of person you are. So I completely understand you. Don't worry about it.

It might get a bit complicated, youre right--i just thought it celebrating here too might be fitting, since its the Frodo club after all. If basically the same people are posting both places, though, i guess theres not a real point. So...whatever you guys want to do.
I havent had much experience in group writing. Poems are very much an expression of who i am for me, so it might pose a bit of a challenge. Still, lets see what Forever (and anyone else who wants) says, and then decide. I do like Frodos chewing as a poem idea, though... i tend to write more "high and lofty" poetry (so to speak, lol ) than...well this might be a bit more of a funny or cute poem, if you know what i mean. (Still worthwhile, though. ) So my point is, having other peoples ideas to bounce off of might help.

Aye, I agree with you Forever! Is she really gone? I haven't checked the other club yet today.
We should wait until she comes back. We'll have a better poem that way.
The only time I have ever ever ever written a poem with someone else was for a history assignment, and then we all just took our own stanza and then put them all together, so it didn't really count as group writing.
My poems, like Eariel's are usually more serious, so I think it could be fun to write a more lighthearted one. We can call it "Ode to Frodo's Chewing" That sounds funny. But still adorably wonderful.
Eariel, if you're not actually gone and you read this, goodbye and I will miss you!

The banner was made by Arwen. I found it on the main site. I'm trying to keep a Frodo theme to my banners, at least until after his birthday celebration. His birthday is this Friday! Wow. I'm jealous of my mother. Her birthday is the day after. Ah well. she doesn't even know who Frodo is really, except what she's heard from me. So I think I'm safe.

I reallly thought it was the day after. and my grandma's birthday is that day too! Eesh! I guess that says sopmethign about me if I remember Frodo's birthday over my mothers's.
