I love the Fact Frodo just seemed to lose track of everything and when Sam speaks, he does so very quietly...we hear it the way Frodo would have heard it and it's really well done. It creates such an eerie atmosphere. The fact that Frodo had no idea what he was doing made it even more creepy and the fact he falls flat finishes the whole scary effect. I got goosebumps when i first watched this scene actually.

I thought it was Sam too, at first. I was really surprised when I saw it was Gollum, but then I realized Gollum probably only saved him because he was wearing the Ring around his neck.
I think that those corpses were from the last battle with Sauron, the Last Alliance of Elves and Men one, but I could be completely wrong. Anyone else know?

I actually have no idea. But the whole thinking about Sam thing...yes, i thought it was Sam at first too...I was completley shocked to find out it was Smeagol, but great point Tinuveils Tears. It was most likeley to have been because Frodo had the ring around the neck...either that or he was trying to create a trustworthy persona.
I do however, believe that at this point Gollum was not in sight. Remember, when faced with the decision, Smeagol tried to fight off Gollum (leave now and never come back) Likleyhood is Smeagol was genuinley being nice lol.

Ah. That's true. If Gollum was gone by this point, then it could have been the Smeagol half, the half that really felt affection for Frodo I believe, that saved Frodo.
Was Gollum "gone" by this point? I can't remember.
Also, even though the Smeagol side was good, he still wanted the Ring. Remember, the Gollum half would talk about the Ring to try get the Smeagol half to kill Frodo and take the Ring from him. There was something else he said, but I can't remember it for the life of me at the moment. Anyways my point is that it could have been Smeagol being nice and it could have been Smeagol saving the Ring. Or some combination of the two.

Hooray! For once, I was right! I think their preservation probably did have something to do with Sauron's power. At any rate, they were very creepy. And disgusting.

So did I! Elijah did such a great job acting that scene out, considering that those things were;nt actualy there. Besides, I've got this sort of idea that it's hard to act when you're underwater. But that's just a theory. He did a wonderful job with thiss scene anyway.

Lol he wasn't actually underwater. It was a fan blowing and the didgital effects made it appear as if it was under water but as with everything, yes Elijah didi a great job lol.
I don't know what it is that preserves those bodies...it's weird I think. Did they disappear when the dark lord toppled? hmm...

I give credit where credit is due, and the Dead Marshes scenes were some of the better scenes from the movies. They got it right for the most part.

I love the excellence in the film-making with the Dead Marshes. Thye fimed the whole thing on a sort of wet set in a parking lot and brought in all of the dead grass and set up fog machines. And WETA Workshop made the bodies in the water; they were dummies made to be photo-realistic. I agree that the score in this scene is amazing
