See, I actually enjoy playing characters that are complete opposites of my true nature. I'm not at all superstitious by nature, so Gibbs is quite fun to play. Likewise, I'm not a scheming evil overlord (yet), but I still love playing the villain in RPGs because it's a break from what's normal.
But maybe I'm just weird like that.

in my experience, antiheroes are easier to play than villians because villians usually have to rp alone. and no matter how opposite to my true nature I try to make my characters, eventually they end up having something in common with me anyway.

Ooh, very nice bios! I should probably eventually get around to making some bios, but it's so rare that I play OCs that I haven't really bothered to...
Just wondering, but would anyone be interested in a slightly different Star Wars RPG? I know we're kinda notorious for not being able to keep SW RPGs alive for very long, but I'm looking for a challenge. The plot actually loosely follows a fanfic that I'm in the process of writing, but it isn't limited to said plot. I'd probably start it about halfway through the story (to avoid some complications), but it would basically follow the story of Valinn and Vyren Sasken (19-year-old twin brothers) 6 months after the Jedi Purge. Valinn was raised a Jedi, while Vyren was raised by their parents on a small farm on Dantooine. Essentially, it's just a struggle to survive and adapt to the rising empire.
I'm still working out a few bugs with the story, but would anyone potentially be interested? Oh, and the main catch: no canon characters.

^ That actually sounds like a very good idea! I'd definitely be interested in something like that.

Sounds interesting ... but if you want to keep it going, you have to throw in a lot of "sub-goals", as it were, to keep people interested. Survival is a pretty ambiguous goal - a more clearly defined one, ie "Run away and hide while bad guys stomp overhead" is more tangible.

I'd have to agree. Pippin really knocks the ball-out-of-the-park when it comes to playing the famous, Captain Jack Sparrow! lol

I'd be interested in an RPG like that, pirateoftherings, but as Valera said....there'd have to be some sub-goals.
I think it's easier to keep a OC RPG going longer than a non-OC RPG, personally. You don't have to worry about whether or not you're posting in-character for such-and-such person. My Star Wars RPG is going pretty slow, but it's lasted since January (with three people).

lol. Actually, what I'd really like to see is an OC/non-OC NJO RP. A good one.

Wow. That'd be really difficult, though. *cringes* I'd hate it if my fav. characters got misplayed. Grrr....I don't think anybody could play Jacen right.

in my experience, when there's both OC and non-OC characters, people such as Jack/Will/Legolas usually end up falling in love with the person who created the rpg.
welcome to the club, Valera

mmm ... if you want something good, of course its going to be challenging. Canon SW charries are hard b/c of all the complexities that have been developed in the books and movies ... esp the NJO charries. I think the real challenge is coming up with a premise that allows the canon charries to function as they "really" do.
Thx LDM! yah, the whole fantastical romance thing works only with specific sits .. and def not when played by swooning pre-teens
Nauriel, I think the first-person perspective in your bio is very effective! Keep developing it!
btw, I think I'm going to start adding "memorable moments" from the actual RPs to my bios, so ppl wont have to actually weed through the RP threads.

^that phrase I like especially. your character strikes me as someone like a tragic loner who's used to surviving on his own. I like the the first-person history and intimate bio. great job!
