Thank you for the welcomes!

I must say that I have not seen the KK version yet, but I have read the screenplay and what I have read does not encourage me. I'm all for the BBC version. :)

Woot! Another fan for the BBC version! *high fives*
It's not that I don't like the 2005 version, it's just that I think the BBC one is way better. Besides, I saw that one first, so it's a littler more dear to me if you know what I mean.

I actually, um, wrote a review of the new one. Click here. I'd be interested in your thoughts either here or there.

I liked it very much Firiel. You mades eom very valid points, and I agree with pretty much alll of them.
I felt almost rushed when I was watching the 2005 version. Like everything was unfolding so fast, there was no time to sit back and watch the plot unfold, particularly Darcy and Elizabeth's love story. There is such a wonderful subtlety to their relationship in the book and the BBC version, which I really missed out on in the 2005 one. Also, I wholeheartedly agree with what you said about the Looks. I always love the scene where Darcy and Elizabeth are just looking at each other at Pemberly, as Georgiana Darcy plays in the background. Jennifer and Colin so such a good job with it, particularly Colin. He communicates so many feelings and so much love in that one look.
I definitely missed some of those typical Jane Austen lines as well. the BBC version impressed me by having a script that stayed so true to the book. Most of the lines, and practically all of the particualrly good ones were inluded in the movie with the exact same wording, or wording very similar. I liked that. The 2005 version seemed to stray so much from that that it bothered me. I understand that they have to change a few things to cut down on time, but a lot of the changes made were unnecessary, such as the ones you have listed in your review.
Another thing I think is of note is that the casting for the BBC version was infinitely superior to the 2005 casting. Keira Knightley actually didn't do badly as Elizabeth, and I was surprised that she did so well. However, most of the other chracters left much to be desired, especially, for me, Mr. Darcy. For me, Colin Firth was almost exactly the Mr. Darcy I had pictured, looks, mannerisms, everything. He was Mr. Darcy. Matthew-Darcy was disappointing to me. He wasn't the only one, but I would say he was the most dissappointing.
There is onyl one point on which I am inlcined to disagree with you. I actually liked the alternate American ending, however ridiculous or sensual other people found it. Yes, it was certainly more physical, but that didn't bother me because they were already married. I thought it was a way to illustrate how deeply they loved each other and how unbridled their love was once they were married. And, if you look past the physical part of it, the idea behind it is really very sweet. It suggests that Mr. Darcy is "perfectly, incandescently happy" (I think those are the words, but don't hold me to it. I've only seen the 2005 version once.) now that he has Elizabeth. So, I liked the ending. :)
Now, if anyone took the time to read this ridiculously long post, I applaud you and thank you for listening to my opinions. ;)

Wow, awesome review Firiel! It was amazing!

Actually, when my and my mom heard Keira was doing Lizzie, we both groaned long and loud. She's just a bit too flippant and flirty an actress to play a down-to-earth, sensible Elizabeth Bennett in a completely convincing way. I also agree with you, T.T., that the US ending was very sweet. It wasn't Jane Austen at all, but I really liked it.

Also, it made me really mad how Wickham got about 3.47 seconds of screen time and then when he runs off with Lydia we're supposed to be distraught and horrified! We never got to know the man! So WHAT if he takes off with Lydia, WE don't know who he is, why do we care? Also, Keira-Lizzie's wrath is very different from the wrath of Jennifer-Lizzie. Keira is angry and stomps around berating Wickham while Jennifer is shocked and very upset, and is obviously trying very hard not to cry. That's actually one of my favorite scenes, I love Colin Firth in that scene :)

But all in all, it was excellent, Firiel! I really emjoyed reading it!

Yes! I know! They don't poperly explain about Wickham at all! Grr. I mean, I understand that they can't fit everything into two hours, but that's one of the essential points of the plot. Either fit it in there by making the movie a bit longer, or don't make the movie. It's exceedingly disappointing to all the Jane Austen fans to see such a huge deviation from the plot.
I do love Colin Firth in the scene, after Elizabeth first hears the news about Lydia and Wickham running away together. He's s sweet. The perfect gentleman. Very Mr. Darcy. I want a Mr. Darcy! :(

Hm, interesting review Firiel! I completely agree with the Whickam section of it.
"Oh no, she ran away with Wickham!"
Ok....your point? I mean, we don't find out who he is! We get one brief overview of him. That's it. I think he is in about 3 scenes tops. That just bugged me, the underdevelopment of character.

That is how I took it too. Not physical, but perfectly happy. I thought the ending was alright, but unfortunately I have yet to see the BBC production. I don't have much to compare it to. (Except for a different BBC one that I wasn't all that crazy about.)

Ooh, club has been bumped up!
Yumm, ok, I read everything, wonderful review Firiel,a dn lovely post that you have up there T.T.

I can't say much without reiterating, i do agree about Wickham, very much so. But I also want to say the sae of Georgiana, in the movie she get's about .2 secnds of screen time and half a line, she has such a sweet character, i was sad that they couldn't develop her character a little more.

As for the ending I was very "ehhhh" about it. I do like the BBC one, but I also agree that this one was nice and kissy, it was cute, so I'm sorta neutral on that point.
:-)

Yay! People posting again! I've missed this club. We should try to post here more often.

Thanks to everyone who read my insanely long post. Wow. Looking at it, i can't believe that I typed all that out. I get into my P&P I guess.

I definitely agree with you Ms. Gamgee about Georgiana. She's not really one of my favorite chracters. I find her docility (is that the word?) to be a little boring. But I loved hearing her play in the BBC version, and she does help to show some of the relationship between Darcy and Lizzy, so I did miss her in the 2005 version.

Once again, nice to see the club running again, at least for a little while.

I liked Georgiana, if just to show how Wickham was once again so wrong. She is sweet, not much of a character in the story but she helps bring Lizzie and Darcy together.

I thought this club needed a little help. I knew people hadn't lost their P&P spirit!

That's also true. She also serves to show us how despicable Wickham really is.

Nope, we all still have our P&P spirit. I think we all just forget about it for a little while. I feel bad bumping the club all the time, but I do wish we were more active. I <3 P&P. (Sorry. I'm addicted to these little hearts. <3)

So, topics anyone? There has to be more P&P stuff to talk about. I know we haven't exhausted all the subjects. How about........... which character do you feel like you relate to the most? Or....... which character was the most annoying? Something anyway. I'll let everyone else pick it.

Most annoying was for me definetly Miss Bingley. I mean, she was so spiteful! She cared about nothing and no one except for herself. She didn't even care about Darcy, she just really (IMO) wanted him because he was rich, handsome, and high on the social meter. Grr. I dislike her so much.
As to who I relate to, I'm not sure. I am tempted to say Lizzie. It was my first thought, and I am very drawn to her character. But I don't know..I guess I will go with her for the moment.

Actually, I think I can relate to Jane most. I'm the oldest of five and I feel pressured a lot to do what I feel I should do rather than what I want to do. I think I would also feel like she does with Mr. Bingley, and be embarassed to pursue him but very disappointed and sad that he'd left. I would, like Jane, probably try to hide it and get on with my life.

As for most annoying...Lydia all the way. She's so flighty and I would be so embarassed by her. *Shudder* I hope none of my siblings ever act that way!

Lydia is quite the character, very young, hyper, immature and also arrogant as well. The worst you can have is immature arrogance.

This is totally random but, wouldn't a younger Alan (maybe 30-40s) Rickman be the totally fabbest Mr. Darcy? :D Even though he already played in.... Emma? Or was it Sense & Sensibility?

I say yes! I saw a younger him in Romeo and Juliet. I didn't know who it was at the time, but I sat there thinking Tybalt isn't too bad.. Then I found out it was Alan Rickman! I think he'd have made a stupendous Darcy.

Kit, it was S&S. :) He's cool.

I think Lydia's the most annoying character for me. She doesn't even make me laugh which sort of redeems Mrs. Bennet and Mr. Collins in my eyes.

Thank you all for the comments on my review. It's nice to have feedback.
