My friend and I bought a kilt last year for fun when we were in Edinburgh. I've only worn it once but I still really like it.
I'm of Scottish ancestry but I don't live in Scotland  . I love my clan's plaid, I have a scarf made from it. It's so awesome *squees* lol. I'm very proud of my Scottish heritage if you can't tell  .
I've never heard of "Monarch of Glen" but then I haven't bought the BBC channel through my cable company so it's not that suprising. _________________ "There's an ocean between.....where I am and where I want to be"

I wish I lived in Scotland, alas, I live in Montana, thousands of miles away *sigh*....oh well...
Actually, I didn't buy BBC to watch Monarch of the Glen, I watch it on our local channel (PBS)  I Love it....
You went to Edinburgh? I love Edinburgh, it's wonderful, I went there with my mom err a few years ago. It's splendid, I loved the Royal Mile Hehe, I love Scotland.

Yeah I went for a three week trip to the U.K. with my family and a friend last year. We spent a week in Scotland. It's so beautiful there. We went from Edinburgh, to Dunattar Caslte (located near Stonehaven), then we went to Loch Ness, and then to Loch Lomen. I miss it!!

Hmm, well, I've never heard of Deura Bagpipes before, so I decided to search it on the net, low and behold those are made in Pakistan. Now in our "bagpiping circle" we have a joke amongst ourselves about buying pakastani pipes, if someone has really out of tune squeaky trouble bagpipes we say there were probably made in Pakistan.
But, they are a reasonable price, so they could be worth spending only $150, even though they definitely wouldn't be of the highest quality....
One thing I'm curious about is what kind of bag they have...Hide ones are much more harder to take care of than synthetic ones....
Anyways...I hope that helps a bit...
Ooo BN, Nice, my mom and I spent 3 weeks just in Scotland, Wonderful time...We flew into Glasgow, went up the west Coast to the Isle of Skye, then to Loch Ness, over the the Deeside and down past Edinburgh to the Borders and then back to Glasgow. Our main focus of of the adventure was spent going on horseback rides throughout the landscape...wonderful, I must admit they have a really great horsebackriding place in Drumbuie/Drumnadrochit right on Loch Ness...Great times...
Edit: HoL, the tune is called "Loudon's Bonny Woods and Braes" and then it goes into "Orange and Blue", I can both Play the tune as well as dance the Highland Fling....but not at the same time of course

Depending on where your friend is... Tell her don't get Gibson bagpipes. My sis did and has tons of trouble with them.
What's everyone's favorite bagpipe tunes? I love Itchy Fingers, Pumpkin's Fancy, All Tied up, and Clumsy Lover. Kitchen Piping, but they're cool songs. _________________ <center>

Oh.. if the pipes cost less than 100, is there something wrong with them? Because this set costs only $59.99 and I want to buy my friend something for Christmas.. obviously she knows about it but I just wanted to make sure they came from a decent place.

Hmm, I think there's always a really big risk buying bagpipes off of eBay, you don't get to try them out or anything. However, I think they're of better quality then the other pipes you showed me earlier...meh, I don't know...it's up to you...

Looking at the prices... My sister's were around $1,700+ and that's including reeds, drone reeds, drone plugs, hemp, and a bunch of other things she would need. I would say no, and I agree with Sidawethiel... I wouldn't buy pipes online or anywhere where you can't try them.
But I also agree in that the second link you put up does seem to be a better set.

I have to admit it is hard to buy a set of bagpipes,especially offline. The ones I have are used, only used 2 times... I payed $1500 for them. Quite spendy...but I love them, they are Shepherd S5 African Blackwood Bagpipes... Hmm...My advice is if you are willing to spend little on your bagpipes than the quality will probably match that, but they would be an excellent learning experience

Yes, start on the practice chanter, but I would say before you move to the pipes you'd need a teacher. Like with other things, you have to be ready to do it.
