Hmm, well, look into this site, they carry good quality bagpipe chanters and stuff:
http://www.midwestbagpipesupply.com/hom ... nters.html

Personally I own a Dunbar

However, there are a lot of kits that you can buy with a chanter and a book for 30$....I had one of those first, the chanter wasn't wonderful and the reed was touchy but it worked and I got by....

hmmm...I need to order more reeds :P

I've heard that $60 are a good price for chanters, but who am I to say anything?

OI!!!!!!!! Thank heavens this club is here!!!

I"M HYPER EXITED!!!!!

Okay. I'm a piper too, and I have a set of Dunbars, (like Sidawethiel) but I hate thier stinking guts. I have a ganaway bag though, and that makes things better. :)

I was wondering: what grade are people in? I'm *finally* Grade 1!!!! My sister adn I both play, and we compete as a duet on occasion. We once beat our teacher adn his buddy. :) What grades people?

And Haldir, if you wanna learn the pipes, I'd strongly reccomend talking to a teacher.

And my fave band is either SFU, shots, (my little brother studied once with thier Drum Seargent!) and Vale of Atholl, a little band that I love because I once had a teacher who played with them.

My tartan is Fraser. I play in a pipeband.. but we're only Grade 3. Does anyone else play in a band?

Midwest Bagpipe Supply is terrific for chanters.

Ahh! You're a bagpiper too! That's amazing! I'm sort of in a band, I don't actually go to the Band Practices because, it's a complicated story about how they only go over one tune a night and blah blah blha....So, I'm still with my teacher and our student group. I'm competing next summer, and I'm excited about it, playing some nifty tunes. Yesh! Oo Fraser, niftyness....

Hehe, my dunbar practice chanter, is good, but I really dislike my reed right now...bahhhh

My sis plays with the Dubai Pipe Band... I was thinking of learning Tenor drums for it, but then realized I have to babysit when she has practice so I can't do that.
She used to be with Cabar Feidh, but we moved so she joined this one. Cabar Feidh was grade 5, even though most of the players were grade 3+. DPB doesn't have a grade, as it's the only Pipe band in the area and therefore can't compete.

Oo Pipe bands sound so nice.. I hear them during parades and events. I might be joining the "Dundas Pipes and Drums" and start learning from there... as soon as I get an e-mail back from them about their location and address, I'll be joining up! Yay!

I'm so excited that you might become a bagpiper HoL! That's soo cool! I'm always really excited when people decide they want to take up bagpiping :)

Highland dancers are sooo awesome.. I could never be half as graceful :D Oh, do you play and dance for the same band? That's wicked!

Yeah I'm so excited too! I've always wanted to play.. it might take me awhile to get used to though, because I played the piano for about nine years and I'll probably get all mixed up.

Oh, you won't get mixed up trust me! I played piano beforehand as well! It's different trust me :) It's so much fun!

So yeah, here are some really bad quality pictures of us highland dancing...We were dancing for our New Years event in our historic theater that holds around 1500 people, every year it's packed and people are standing...it's quite popular :)

This is actually a really bad picture of us Highland dancing (I'm on the far right)

I'm on the right again:

Oh good.. I hate getting mixed up *sighs* how about that blasted instrument called the "recorder" that alot of kids were forced to play in elementary school? I had to play that for about a couple of years *panic*

oo wow those pics are so cool, Sida! You look like you're a really good dancer..

I could never dance because i don't have the grace that you dancers have :teehee:

so do you guys like dance for a lot of events a year?

Hehe, we had to play recorders in school too! Ha, that's funny....good ol' days in 5th grade....

I think everyone can Highland Dance (Or at least they should) :teehee:, I'm definitely not graceful, I trip going up stairs, I'm always the one that slips on stuff and falls at work, errr...what else, I'm not anywhere close being graceful.

Anyways, we used to dance more than we do now... now it's New Year's Eve, Robert Burn's Night and International Festival....We used to dance more at festivals and St. Patrick's Day :P

Robert Burn's Night, as yes, fond memories. Very famous Scottish Poet, I guarntee you've heard something by him. "Auld Lang Syne", the tune that is played all the time around New Years....Anyways, Robert Burn's Night, celebrates Scotland's most famous poets by having a big scottish dinner and dancing. Pretty much we have a "Piping in of the Haggis Ceremony", some dancing and more food....it's fun! If you have a bagpipe band in your area I'm sure you probably have a Robert Burn's Night Celebration, it's usually on January 25, the day he was born....:)

Ballet? Not being able to start at any age? Other than above 5, there's no age limit. No dance should be started below 5. Kid's attention spans are too short.

My sister is *supposed* to be giving me lessons on the chanter. I'm going to get at her tomorrow and make her.

Robert Burn's night sounds Cool!
