I have to say I don't think it's particularly original :hide: Maybe I've been browsing Anti-Shur'tugal too much recently, but it seems like he's ripped off a ton of people besides Tolkien. Not to mention he has a major attitude problem...

Does he? I haven't seen him interviewed lately. Boy, if/when I become an author, I hope I don't turn out like that.

OK, I haven't been on in a while...

The new Eragon clips are... interesting. The one where Murtagh is introduced is really weird. My older brother was making fun of it, because for some stupid reason Murtagh was laughing when he got dropped. My older brother pretending to be Murtagh: "Oh, I just LOVE being dropped on my head! I've loved it ever since the first time when I was a baby!" My favorite is the one where Brom starts training Eragon.

Is it just me, or is Eragon a complete idiot?

And is it just me, or is there some really lame screenwriting going on?

Also... I'm going to have to agree with Arwen. Yesterday at the table my siblings and I were discussing Eragon, and my dad was listening, and he said that the whole dragon rider concept and the dragons choosing their rider was already used in another fantasy series... can't remember what it's called right now. CP just basically stole everything from other things.

And I hope I don't turn out like that either. I adore writing, and have been writing my whole life, and I always strive for origionality. It's hard... but worth it. Also I personally think I'm a better writer than he is.

It's Eragon overload at the moment in town...you can't look anywhere without a Eragon poster visually attacking you. Can't wait to see it though. Even if the rest of the film is rubbish, I will have Murtagh, Durza and Myhairneverevergetsmessedupagon to gaze at starry eyed :P

ah. This was posted a while back...

Well, there is the whole Arya/Eragon thing that is pretty darn reminiscent of Arwen/Aragorn (I mean, come on, their names even sound the same) but you're right - the plot isn't copying LotR. It's copying Star Wars!

Quote:
Plot:
-The concept that a “good” character turns “evil” (Morzan/Anakin) after a great loss (dragon/Amidala (or, alternatively, Anakin’s mother)
-The concept of a mother (Selena/Amidala) having two children (Murtagh & Eragon/Leia & Luke) who are separated and meet later under difficult circumstances.
-The concept that a poor farm boy (Eragon/Luke) has a greater heritage than he realizes (Morzan/Anakin)
-The concept that a poor farm boy (Eragon/Luke) lives with a close relative (Uncle Garrow/Uncle Owen) because of his mother’s premature death
-The concept that, just before capture, a princess (Arya/Leia) sends something (Dragon Egg/R2D2) far away to protect something (Saphira/recording).
-The concept that a poor farm boy (Eragon/Luke) picks up said something while doing regular work (hunting/trading)
-The idea that a poor farm boy loses his uncle (Uncle Garrow/Uncle Owen) to the hands of "the Empire"
-The passing on of a weapon (Zar’roc/lightsaber) from father to son (Morzan & Eragon/Anakin & Luke) through another source (Brom/Obi Wan Kenobi)
-The concept of a wise old man who is among the last of a declining resistance (Brom/Obi Wan Kenobi) teaching the descendant of a once-friend-now-rival (Morzan/Anakin)
-The concept of a group of "good" rebels bent on destroying "the Empire"
-The concept of an initial battle (Battle of Farthen Dur/Battle of the Death Star) which is ultimately won
-The concept of a new teacher (Oromis/Yoda) who takes the place of the old one (Brom/Obi Wan) under certain circumstances and present also lessons of philosophy
-Father/Son Revelations

That's from a web page Arwen posted a while back, I didn't make it up :)

^I see. Thanks. :) I would go into my speech on the "collective unconscious" if I didn't know it would fall upon deaf ears... :P

Wow... Strange, yet unsurprising. My computer won't play them...

I've seen some of the clips...Eragon really does look like an immature little prat. Everyone else looks great but I'm basing that of the clips that I saw. Hopefully my opinions remain unchanged.

I laughed so hard when Brom thwacked Eragon in the first 3.5 seconds of fighting - that's right, show the bratty little farm boy! I hope he gets better, he's pretty arrogant now. He's also really uptight with Murtagh. My computer won't play the whole clip, only the beginning, but I actually think Murtagh's got a fun sense of humor if he can laugh about it. Maybe it can counter Eragon, who has no sense of humor whatsoever

Am I being bitter? The movie trailers look...not what I expected >=(

Well, be comforted then, that the Ra'zac in the movie look nothing like the Nazgul. For one, they weren't mounted on horses. Nor were they cloaked in black. Plus they were like wicked fast so you shouldn't worry about them looking anywhere near like a Nazgul

^xD

As for Arwen up there, I always heard that he was such a nice person, does he really have a bad attitude?

And if you all hated him so much then you wouldn't anticipate the movie as much as you have been. And come on, can't we just be a little less mean. Sure the messed up just about everything in the movie, and the book's a bit unoriginal...yet we've all been here in these 900 pages discussing the upcoming Eragon movie and the book....can't we all just get along? :p
