I like Alan Rickman as Snape, but I'm having trouble picturing him as Darcy. Probably because I never saw him in Sense and Sensibility. The breeches you know.
Most annoying for me was definitely Mary. She's almost as bad as Lydia, but what bothers me most is that she doesn't think for herself at all, she just follows along with whatever Lydia does. That bothers me to no end. Grr.
As for who I relate to the most, I'm going to have to go with the popular and predictable and say Lizzy. I'm definitely not as nice as Jane, and overly nice people tend to bother me like they bother Lizzy. The first time I read P&P I felt like I was reading about myself because Lizzy reminded me so much of me. It was slightly weird.

I saw Alan Rickman in S&S. I get the breaches thing, TT.
The most annoying person for me was probably Caroline Bingly, for reasons that everyone has already stated. She just got on my nerves throughout the book.
I can't decide whether or not I'm more like Lizzy or Jane. I'm quiet and shy like Jane, and seeing her especially in the movie reminded me of how I act a lot of the time. I think that my mind works more like Lizzy's though, and I love to read like she does.

Do you mean Kitty? Because Mary's the one that's usually reserved and plays the piano constantly, she doesn't really swoon for guys or follow along with her other sisters.

I can't believe I did that!!! Yes, thanks Kit, of course I meant Kitty. I can't believe I messed that up! I must not ahve been thinking. *hits self in head repeatedly* Ok. Now that that's done.
It seems like most people relate most strongly to either Lizzy or Jane. I think that's probably because they're just about the only two likable female chracters in the novel. Georgiana Darcy would be an exception, but we don't hear much about her.
This may seem like an odd question, but does anyone actually know a guy who's read Pride and Prejudice or watched one of the movies, let alone liked it? I think my 11 year old brother kind of liked the movie (BBC version), but that's the only guy I now who's ever even given it a chance. It seems to be more of a girl thing. I guess I can see why. It's a romance. Stereotypically, girls are more into romance and guys are more into action. Still, I think guys could get into P&P, just like girls can get into the bloody battles in movies like...... LOTR. I just don't know any guys who have.

I'm not sure, I'll have to ask the one guy friend I have that would have actually read it. I know his sister has but I don't know if he has.

I do actually know some. Someone I know runs an academy for guys in Alaska and evidently the A&E P&P is their collective favorite movie.

^ That's funny! A whole academy of guys in Alaska who like P&P. Who woulda thought? That's cool though. Maybe there is a scarcity of good guy movies in Alaska or something.

I would love to join this club, I have only seen the BBC/A&E movie of P&P. I love it the most. Lizzie and Jane are my favorits and I think Mrs. Benet is Hilarous!

Welcome Frodo's fan!
Okay, here's a question for all of you: What do you think Wickham's motive was in running off with Lydia? I mean, he had a motive with Georgiana because she's filthy rich, but Lydia has no money, no connections, nothing really very attractive about her. Was it a form of revenge? Against Lizzie, or Mr Darcy?

That's a hard question. *thinks hard*
You're explanation seems probable. Or perhaps because, after Lizzie turned him down, he then had the chance to make Lizzie jealous / prove that he is "good enough" for a Bennet. Or something like that. *shakes head* Did that make any sense?

I think he was just a fool. Also I think he wanted to get back at Darcy.

So you think it was revenge against Mr Darcy, then? Because running off with Lydia would impugn the honour of the Bennet family, and he suspects that Darcy is in love with Lizzie, or Lizzie is in love with Darcy? (Or both!) So that means that the family of the woman Darcy wants to marry would then be in disgrace...or something? I lost my train of thought there, sorry. But somehow I wonder if Wickham is really that smart.

Well Wickham's intetions could have been aimed that way but I also think it had to do with Lydia also. Such a trouble girl. The real question is: did she indended to dishonour her family and disgrace her sisters? did she think about her actions and did Whickham have a plan to disdraut the Benets?

I always thought that Wickham ran off with Lydia because he was going to run away anyway, since his debts were getting him into trouble, and he wanted someone to take along with him. I don't think he ever suspected Lizzy or Darcy's feelings. I think he just wanted someone to share the blame with, since he knew he would be caught eventually, and when he was, the punishment would be less if someone else had done something wrong too. Maybe that doesn't make sense.
As for Lydia's motives, I think she really liked Wickham. I think she really just wanted to get married. I don't think she did what she did to purposefully hurt her family and friends, although she undoubtedly did do that.
So that's my 2 cents for today.
Welcome to the club Frodo's fan! Always happy to see another fan of the BBC version.
