I think if he did ever manage the avatar state, he would be able to just tear through the fire benders and it would be over way to quickly. I think he'll struggle for a while. Sokka is the best. He's so funny.

I agree. I think Azula is older.

Does anyone else absolutely adore Uncle? He may be old, but he's so wise and adorable....and funny.

Iroh's awesome. I love his firebending ways. I sometimes forget he's a firebender though because he's so different in his disposition.

EDIT:

I drew Avatar fanart, but it's featuring myself trying to do all the different style of bending. xDD

Thanks guys! xD

I wanna talk about something, that I've been curious about.

If, in fact, Azula is older --- then does that have something to do with the fact that Azula's fire is blue and Zuko's is red/orange? Was it explained why Azula's fire is blue? I haven't seen all the episodes, so....

I'm not sure about this but from my vague memory of sixth grade, I do believe that blue fire is hotter than red/orange fire? If that's true, does it mean that Azula's a lot more powerful than Zuko?

This show's awesome, I love the artwork, the animation, and there are some pretty serious themes involved along an awesome storyline. I've watched every episode at least once and there isn't a single one I'd consider a "filler" episode, each one's got a special twist to it.

I had never considered the ages of Zuko and Azula, actually I always thought of Zuko as the oldest but for no reason at all. In the flashbacks, he's taller as a little kid although because he's a boy it probably doesn't mean anything. I think Azula's fire is blue because of her training, which is far more complete than Zuko's. Azula has mastered lightning, which is a form of firebending and was also called the Cold Fire by Iroh (There's a lot of this in the "Bitter Work" episode. But the blue fire's looks different from the times lightning was shown so I think its just a result of her current level in training. Dunno.

Ooooh, I did not know about the lightning detail in fire bending --- neato! I really need to see more and more episodes to get these. I hope Book 3 doesn't start before I'm at least half-way through watching Book 1 & 2.

If in fact, Azula has a higher level of firebending training, I'm assuming that means Azula's older, she has more time experience on him anyways.

I despise filler episodes, Eruadan. :p And I agree, It's good that Avatar doesn't have any --- but I did perceive the one episode in book 2 that was kinda filler-ish. I don't remember what it was called but throughout the episode it showed the group in Ba Sing Se ( I think? ) and they had lost Appa.... so...

First it was "The Tale of Katara & Toph" then "The Tale of Sokka" <--- Sokka was doing a haiku battle with a etiquette teacher. :p --- etc.

Love, your sig set, Eruadan. I saw that one on Deviantart --- it was amazing! :D

I like that there are certain twists to the different bendings, like the vine bending in waterbending and the "metalbending" Toph pulls off in the finale.

Now that you mention it, that episode with the Tales might not be pertinent to the storyline but it did give some cool insight on the characters, I particularly liked Zuko's and Iroh's.

I love character episodes. :p

Vine bending --- argh. I'm so behind in this series. Must see more episodes! [facepalm] What kind of bending would you like to do, Eruadan? Out of mere curiosity.

One of the plot-points that I LOVED even though I kinda jumped in the middle of it was the invasion and kind of... "mutiny" created by Azula and the one dude in the Earth Kingdom --- the finale of book 2, me believes. That was just amazing. Azula is an amazing villain.

oooooo, that episode's awesome; It's called "The Swamp" and it introduces these foggy swamp waterbenders that can bend water inside plants and make em move.

I don't know which bending I'd pick, they're all so different and the show's really gone all the way through with each one, but if I have to pick one, then its water, just because the possibilities seem endless and I'm dying to see a particular waterbending move be done that I don't think would ever be done because its a tad violent.

I do wonder about the limits to waterbending---water could be found anywhere, ice, plant water---- but one that is curious is the body. Since water makes up the majority of the human body it could be .... violent... and sickening...

Or maybe are waterbenders only allowed to bend mostly pure water?

That's exactly what I thought of!! They've already shown the waterbenders using bending for healing so it probably works the other way around

I don't think so though, they've shown Katara doing all sorts of bending. She could bend the slurry mud in the episode with the drill, she drew out water that had spilled over sand and also from clothes and that episode where they bended clouds. Yeah possibilities are endless. And they've pretty much established that advanced benders could control trace elements in other substances.

I do wonder about the ability to heal lying to waterbending only. I s'pose it makes the most sense --- the kind of herbal healing would depend on the water-content/solute in the human body...

What is Katara's "special healing water" though? Where did it come from? And what makes them special?

They haven't been to clear on that actually, at least from what I can recollect. As far as I can tell, some waterbenders have unique healing powers asides from the healing all waterbenders can learn. I think for Katara, her healing powers emerged in an episode back in season 1 when Aang tried to learn firebending against the natural course of learning the elements and accidentally burned Katara's hands; she put them in the river and they started to glow and automatically healed. The firebender that was teaching Aang told her she had healing powers. Her healing water came from the oasis at the North Pole, she got it when she left in episode 1 of season 2. It's supposed to have unique properties; I don't remember if it was exclusively for healing.

Quick question revisiting the ages of Zuko and Azula. I don't think it poses much argument because the Fire Lords that have been revealed are all male, but its been said that Zuko is the heir to the throne. Now this may probably be because he's the oldest male, but it still leaves a window of possibility. I don't think training alone is enough to set their age. Even when they were younger Azula was always ahead, bending came naturally to her, while Zuko had to struggle constantly to keep up, which he couldn't.

I believe I heard it mentioned somewhere that Zuko is older than Azula. But if Zuko is sixteen...I just can't see Azula being fifteen or younger.

And about lightning...yeah, it's a skill. Dunno if you saw the episode where Iroh was trying to teach Zuko to use lightning. It's apparently a really difficult thing...
I love Uncle. He proves that it isn't the firebending that's inherently evil, it's the wielder. No one could look at Zuko now and call him evil...he's an incredibly confused kid.

I hadn't thought about using the water in peoples' bodies...that's sort of disturbing. I suppose they have to keep some sort of boundary- Avatar is, after all, a childrens' show. I can't see Katara doing anything that damaging...itseems almost dishonest.
But then, if a waterbender could utilize the water in a person's body, why couldn't a firebender just set the person on fire?

Kit, I know what you mean about Zuko. What do you all think about his involvement in the last few episodes? I couldn't sleep very well last night, so I was thinking about it...you know, there's no fantasy in the way he became sick after he chose to reject his old way of life. When a person is going through emotional trauma, their body often reflects it. *ponders*

Dan, I love your sig! Does anyone know where I could get good Avatar...er, avatars? And banners?

I thought Zuko's psychological confrontation was the most intense concept in the series so far. His entire journey has definitely been interesting and I was rooting for him going good so that finale was definitely a shocker for me. But he's still a little insecure so there's still hope ;)

I don't really know where they have nice sigs and banners; I browsed some time ago and didn't find much, but www.avatarspirit.net has all the episodes screencapped so there's a good source for stock.
