on the contrary, Aerandir, many people join intricate rpgs if they're interesting enough. all you have to do is tone down the complexities a bit
new line of discussion as this one seems to be woefully unconscious... is there a particular actor or book character you've based an rpg character on?

Well, in the RP I started based on Master and Commander, the captain I played was quite a bit like Jack Aubrey in the M&C movie. I've played a few charries that are similar to tv charries too, usually I use a picture of the character, and the personality turns out sort of the same. lol

Ah, yes. Well, I based one of my charries of a TV charrie, though I don't watch the show, I (probably too heavily) based one character off a character from 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'... I can't recall his name... Something with a 'J'... I don't know. But, I saw part of an episode with him in it when I turned on the TV, and it was set to Nick.

Right, LDM. Tone down the complexities. Um.... *thinks about how to do that* That's one of the reasons it'd make a better novel--I don't have to worry about other people making continuity errors if I'm the only one writing.
Anyways, I can't think of any characters of mine that are based off of movie or book characters. I'm pretty certain I don't have any, but I'd have to check.
Actually, I suppose you could say that Aerandir was based off of the book character, but I really just wrote him as the book character, so I don't know if that really counts.

What kind of fantasy do you write Aerandir? And how far have you gotten?
I believe I've based my characters of a mix of everything I've seen and read... mainly reality...

I don't think I've ever consciously based a character on an actor or character I know, though a couple times I've finished making a bio and then noticed an extreme similarity. The last time that happened I discovered it was eerily similar to Arya Never good...though better if it's book Arya. If anything, certain of my characters are based off certain other characters that I made and liked, and then tweaked a bit to suit the individual RP.

Yes, my characters have elements of my favorite characters from other things.

I do that a lot, Melda. I try to make them different with different names and such... but let's just say that in the end, if most of my characters knew each other they'd get along very well.
I become inspired by characters from books. After reading about a character I particularly liked, I'd decide that I need one like him/her of my own, just tweaked a bit.

^^ I'm tellin' you people, y'all are all mind readers. Meldawen, LDM, you both just read my mind. I am greatly inspired by the fiction I read, and often try and tweak my characters to be more like my favorites, without copying the author. I also must say that alot of my charries, mostly old ones, seem very mary-sue... But I still love 'em. And I'm not very good at evil charries... I can do the semi-evil but still a remotely civilized being type villan, but the full-fledged all out wicked is very hard for me.

I don't consciously base my charries on book or movie characters... though I suppose that they have to share certain abstract elements. I try to be original and only take and mutilate their names I admit that they usually have a few things in common with myself.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the RPG plot entries

Erk, it's already february and my idea isn't done. If I end up abandoning this one I will kill myself. I need to take an hour somewhere and finish it nicely

I abandoned my 1st RP entry idea, and now I'm working on another. Maybe not the best idea, but I can always fall back on the other one if I need to! lol

lol... Well the one I entered just kinda... it came to me very randomly, and VERY suddenly. I was sitting at my mom's laptop, thinking that I would probably end up with some sort of 'chosen one' RPG, and then I suddenly had the idea of high cliff dwelling american indian-type people who flew on giant birds.
Yeah. Random.

Well, the classical thoroughly evil "Kill them all, leave none alive. *followed by menacing laugh of eternal Doom* kind of characters are as boring as the hero. Actually, I don't believe in evil characters, unless they make for a good opponant that must die in the end in order for the hero to finally claim his throne after the difficult, but glorious victory. I believe all characters act from a certain background and with certain beliefs. So the "evil" can be as exciting to play as the "good" ones, if not more interesting in fact! Everyone wants something!

^whoa, that was hard to read... i don't know why...
yes, its true that evil characters aren't really good heroes. the only thing they want to accomplish is killing everyone.

I love my evil characters, especially the villians I play. In rpg, I don't believe they actually need a background. Take Okandar for instance in Elements... I love that guy
When it comes to my evil rpg characters, they all have a background. Because of that, I wouldn't call them evil necessarily - just badly treated by life. It's sometimes tedious to play the more calculating ones as they are inevitably more cunning than I am, so I have to put thought into their actions.
