I usually don't play many canon charries, because I don't want to mess them up, and also because it's more fun for me to develop my own charrie. lol I try to post as that canon charrie would act, but I'm sure I don't always do too well (and sometimes I bet I do pretty horrible. lol). But anyway.
Also, sometimes I fall into the "short post" trap. I can't think of much of anything to post, but I still want to <i>post</i>. I still try to post decent material though. lol
My pet peeves-
Mary Sues. I honestly haven't seen that many lately, but when I do see them, they tend to bug me.
I'm sure I'm being hypocritical here, but it also can bug me when people post without giving other charries a chance for interaction.
And the *skips through the daises* thing can bug me too, although I've rarely seen that.
Anyway, there's my mini-rant for the evening *bows* (whoops, I just used the dreaded asteriks! lol) Thank you, thank you.

Well, and part of it for me is that some people don't try to find someone they're good at. I don't expect everyone to be perfect at every single character. There are several characters who I'm sure I would play horribly. So I don't play them. I've found my basic group that I can play, and while I do still enjoy branching out, I don't take any roles that I don't feel confident I can handle. If you (using "you" as a general term) have tried over and over to play, say, Gandalf, and no matter how hard you tried you couldn't get him right, then I'd probably say that you're not best suited to play Gandalf. You should move on to another character and let someone else try it. Don't keep on insisting upon playing Gandalf if it's obvious that you can't do it.
Maybe it's just me, but I find it far more enjoyable to play characters who I know I'm decent with.

I don't know if the harsh tone I sense in your discussion here is to be taken literally, but it comes off just slightly intimidating sometimes.  Well, just a thought that crossed my mind. RPG'ing here is completely foreign to me and I never follow any RPG's through, I'm only browsing a couple of posts or pages occasionally, so in fact I might not even be entitled to have a sound opinion about it.  I wouldn't say that all of the RPGs are like that. Yeah, we can be kind of....excluding, in some of them, but most of the RPGs don't seem to be like that. Of course, the better ones started with lots of people in them, and then the noobs/halfhearted ones dropped out, and the best ones stayed in. Then, when the RPG looks really really really good, the plot is normally too intertwined to make it easy for others to join, especially if they aren't that great. And they might feel a little intimidated at the skill that the posters have, or at the character development. Not that I'm talking about Star Crystal or anything, though....  Seriously, though, LDM's and Melda's character development is...intimidating.

Indeed, Aerandir, and that's why you have my everlasting admiration for venturing to join Fifty-five (about) pages of character development before you came in has to be a pretty intimidating thing. So I give you props
And yes SG, we're talking about our RPG pet peeves. Mary-Sues...pointless posts...spam...that sort of thing. _________________

I would have to heartily agree with what PotR said about people who fancy themselves the masterminds of a character, when in reality they have a lot to work on. Frankly, I'm never content with the way I play a character [besides a little genious one-liner now and then], and I'm always striving like a madwoman to improve. So naturally, it bugs me when a person come flouncing in as if this character is their expertise and life-time study.
Another pet peeve [yes, pet, my preciousss] would have to be MAJOR plot changes without any warning to the other RPers. Say for instance we're having a calm LotR RP, we're doing something in Gondor... and all of a sudden some Mary Sue comes driving up in a time machine singing lyrics by Evanescence, and saving the day with her m@d skillzzz! And everyone else stands there awkwardly, not knowing how to respond, and usually the RP croaks over and dies soon after. Sigh. Plot twists are good - when they are reasonable and comprehensible.

Personally, I think an RP works better when everyone is involved in advancing the plot, not just the creator. So a certain amount of your own personal twist is often a good thing so that the creator doesn't have to force things along. But I do agree that sometimes it goes a little too far.
Oh, another thing that bugs me - when someone else does about three million things in the same post without ever giving your character a chance to react. Lots of description is fine, but don't shoot a million arrows and jump down and stab someone and run away all in the same post. RPing should be like writing a story, and that's not.

I agree with you, Melda, everyone helping with the plot is good. That also bugs me when somebody post a whole bunch. I'm left sitting helplessly at the computer, thinking, <i>I could've responded there...or there...or there...</i> lol But then, there's a balance between too much and not enough. *shakes head* RPing can be confuzzling at times. lol

Plot changes have to be good, to put it simply. We just had a really great plot change thing in the Phantom RP when a bunch of bounty hunters tried to take our heads! It was well done, so i had a lot of fun! I got to use my horse. (I love my horse!)
Sudden plot changes that completely change the whole story and give it a whole new tone ruin the story! The story was ment to be one way, please don't change it.
Though now that Shadowcat mentioned it, if an RP has bombed, a plot change mey help it along.

Haha. Everyone contributing to the plot. Kind of like Star Crystal? Oh wait. No.  I'm not really contributing there. Of course, that will change.
My Star Wars RPG is going downhill because of that plot thing--nobody's really doing anything to advance the plot (not just the main one, but even side plots), so I'm getting really bored of making all the posts that advance the story. _________________
