So sure, eh? Well I have a few ideas up my sleeve... Good ones. (For the most part) and [s]VICTORY SHALL BE MINE![/s] I might mabye kinda sorta get 3rd place if this specific event were to occur sometime in the future.
Hey, have you noticed that my statment becomes less and less intimidating as I type? Cool, huh? Seriously, I don't think I would stand a chance at any of y'all.

Lol, SG. I'm sure you stand a fighting chance. Perhaps we'll all rip each others things to shred and then nobody will win.
But that wouldn't be very condusive to friendship now, would it.

Valera Elenhathel wrote: Cool ideas, Elenya! here's another one: have everyone pick a charrie they've already come up with and write backstory or a dream sequence, not to exceed, say, 250 words. That would keep it short enough so ppl wouldn't feel intimidated by super long posts (not to pick on you wonderful folks who do write novels )
I've probably written or started quite a few of those....but they're all over 250 words by quite a bit and my current one has gotten to be eight pages on notebook paper, double-spaced

That's a cool idea too, Valera! I'd have to think about that one.
I don't know, I do have a few ideas of my own for RP races! *sneaky eyes* lol

Wow, there you go. Excellent ideas, I shall have to try those.
All right here's a question. How do you come up with your names? I used to fill out the bio first, then sit there and spontaneously have typing spasms to see what comes out. As demonstrated...
fjdwaoin
Hmm... take out the j... add an l... Fdwaloin. Try saying that 10 times fast Lately I've grown lazy and resorted to random name generators.

For fantasy names, I used to randomly come up with names, sometimes by twisting a "real" name till it sounds fantasy-ish. Other times I'd come up with a name off the top of my head. I've gotten lazy too, and have been using name generators lately.
For "real" names, I usually go to behindthename.com and browse the ethnicity section that I want my name to be. I've been looking in Scottish and Irish names more and more. lol

I think we had this topic around twenty-pages or so. My answer is still the same.
If it's anything besides LotR, I normally make them up off of the top of my head, or, if I'm feeling lazy, I'll take a not-so-well-known name from a book that I like and alter it (or not) to use it.
If it's LotR, though, I either use an existing name or just employ a random name generator.
Fantastic name-making skills, LDM Is that how you came up with Kendath?

Yeah... We did have this topic. Ah well.
For LotR names, I usually go to EoA and pick out a lesser known character and use their name. Or I go to a site (Such as AU) And go to the name translation section and pic out a name of reasonable size.
For non-LotR names... Well, Usually I write out the entire bio, so that I have a complete mental picture of the person, then I pick out a 'letter' for the person (i.e. The letter I think of when I see the person. For instense (sp), LDM's letter would be 'R' (I don't know why) Meldawen's would be 'M', and Aerandir's would be.... Hmm. Either 'A' or 'U' (Again, don't ask. I don't know. )] anyway, long story short, I build off of that. Or, I use name genoraters from time to time.
And I agree with Aerandir, LDM, very nice name making skills you have. (Hm. Sounded a bit 'Yoda-ish'... Ah well) I might have to try that sometime.... Though I'd probably end up with somting like shmiednor, by looking at the blobs of letters I can make.

Ohhh it makes a lot of sense Star Gazer. I always associate people (online) with their names so the better I get to know them, the more their name expands to contain their personality... sort of...ish...
I like picking a couple of characteristics, either physical or skills, special talents etc. and then finding a name that symbolizes/translates/relates to those characteristics... e.g. from Behind The Name.

My names are often subconsciously related to people or names I know in real life. Merrin is my best friend's name with an M at the beginning and an extra R, Nakaida I thought was original until I discovered the composer of my new piano piece was Yoshinao Nakada, Phantom Grey I actually got inspiration for from the color of my uncle's new car...the only name of a character that I think I can safely claim is completely of my own creation is Eledhe. I also have a new character in the works whose name is basically a couple types of gem manipulated to sound like names
Aerandir wrote: Fantastic name-making skills, LDM Is that how you came up with Kendath?
I believe Kendath was a typo of Rendath Though how she came up with that I don't know.
I've also used www.geocities.com/fantasynames, but they don't have a huge selection. It's where I got and manipulated Silvryn, Rhaeryn, and Seryl. Names tend to be quite important to me because they can totally decide the character's personality. If Merrin had been, say, a Nakaida, her personality would have been totally different. So it's good she's a Merrin It's weird, I know.
adsoifu
How do you make a name out of THAT? I don't know if my letter-blobs are very inspired...
poiugffd
Nope.

I read the RPG, SG, but I doubt I'll join at this time--I'm having trouble finding the time to post in my current ones.
As for the weird naming style....let's see what happens when I try.
coivle
Coifle
Caifle
Caefle
Caef. <--that's okay. That's passable. However, I'll take it one more.
Caef(a/e)n<--That's even better.

I've done a name or two like that, but I prefer modifying names from books or real life.
Aerandir, is 'Aftermath' dead? Because it would be a shame if it was ... it's prob now the longest running RP on the forum still has plenty of potential
