*LOL* What if you're not a Yankee's fan? *giggle*

Tell me, does he think it's crazy people in the states think leaving your G's off in words like "running" (runnin') is southern? 'Cause it's actually Irish...

 It's kinda like Bostonians. We leave R's out of our words, but I've learned how not to speak that way so now I can speak it both ways. :) It makes me feel smart. XD

I am going to make it my life goal to talk to a New Englander and ask them what a pirate says, because they can't say R's, and since pirates say ARRRR, I'd like to hear the result.

Actually it's not all of New England. It's just people who live either in Boston, North of Boston (like I do) or central Massachusetts. People out west of the state near the border of New York and on Cape Cod (Southern Massachusetts) speak with the R's and are not looked at as Bostonians. People of the Cape Cod are called Cape Codders and some of them think they are their own little state or something like that. I lived on the Cape for 10 years when I and sometimes confused the hell out of people when I spoke without my R's. If I had a dollar for everytime someone had asked me if I was from Boston, I'd be one rich woman. I learned how to speak with R's cause I was surrounded by people who spoke that way but I never lost my Bostonian accent. Sure I can speak it both ways now I speak the Bostonian one most of the time because obviously born a Bostonian. Nowadays, a lot of people here have to learn how to speak with the R's cause we get tourists from all over the States and Canada and when we drop the R, people have no idea what we are saying.

I had a teacher who was from Boston, so I tried to learn how to speak like her. I think I'm somewhat fluent in Bostonian.

Do you think Chicagoans have an accent? I've been told by people that we sound our 'o' oddly.

I'm sure they do. I've never met anyone from there so I can't say.

I don't live in the south, so I really don't no what he thinks. And Yankee's is referring to the the army nick-name, like how we used to call the British 'lopster backs.'

Still, it's funny.

We Southerners have our own language sometimes, we call such speech to use a "Southernism" Generally, we leave the G's off of our "ing" words, because we're all potato famine people. We also have odd ways of pronouncing pretty much everything.

I don't think Michigan people say anything funny.
But I wouldn't know.

Pennsylvanians, they say some weird stuff, though....

My younger sister once had a math teacher that was from Tennessee (did I spell it right?) and she had a very strong accent. Nearly everyone, including her, failed the class because they couldn't understand a word she said.

yep Tennessee is correct.

Tennessee folks have a worse accent then Alabamians, who are actually very smart contrary to popular belief. We have Florida to straighten us out.

Oh good, I'm not the best speller

Hmm...I've heard very little of an Alabama accent. I've always guessed it was just a southern accent but you never really know these days.

There's no such thing as a "general" southern accent. You can tell where a person's from by certain pronunciations and such down here by the county.

Yeah I know. I've learned over years that there is no general Southern accent. But I can't tell any apart, I haven't heard them enough to really notice it. It's hard to pick up accents around here cause this state is very mixed plus all the tourists.

I tend to block you guys out. No, just kidding.

Maybe us Milwaukeeans do too... [listens to people talk]

We're slackers, we say 'Mwaukee'.
