Oh my, I have questions!
Yes! I can Sword Dance, it's pretty nifty. It's a lot of fun to do, even though, I prefer doing the Broadsword to it, but you have to have four people to do that.
Oooh! Irish Dancing! I'm planning on taking that soon, they offer classes around here, and I think it would be great fun to compare it to Highland Dancing. Anyways, I'm looking up Irish dance ghilies. They look similiar there are some subtle differences, but so just as long as you get the soft shoes and not the tap shoes...I think you'll be alright Anyways, here's some pictures of both Irish and Highland Ghilies....
So, here are some Highland ones, I have a pair just like it, except they have red eyelets instead...
And here are some Irish ones:

So would you say it'd be safe to get a pair of Irish dance ones?

I have always wanted to be a Highland Dancer! I Irish Dancing for a month about a year ago and it was fun, but everyone else in the class was 10 years younger than me, it was horrible. If I had stayed in it I could probably be competing by now because I am a quick learn and I am already a dancer. I got into Bagpipes instead, and then went to drums, which I absolutely love, though, I would like to learn to play the pipes at some point in time.
I had one lesson in Highland Dancing years ago and I would love to begin again, but there isn't anyone near me that will teach me. Hopfully I can find a college with a Pipe and Drum Band and Highland Dancing. That would be awesome!
A Drumming Dancer...
WD
I thought this was absolutely halarious!

I'm not... though actually Scots are just Irish who came over to Scotland for more land. Then they joined with the Picts after the while.
So in a way I s'pose I could say I'm Scottish, cuz I'm Irish.

^ Awesome
Just Scottish for me which is fine. As long as I got some Celtic blood within me, it's all good.

After several long years, I had endless amounts of haggis today... I was helping out at a Scottish festival, and it was awesome. The head man did Burns' "address to the Haggis". It was hilarious, especially his dramatization of it *snicker*
It was great though... haggis is delicious. I don't know why some people (who have never tried any before, mind you) wouldn't like it I love Scottish people; they are so friendly. They spoke to me like they new me forever, when I just met them.
They also had this audience participation event, and an older dancer coaxed me to go up onto the stage and learn the Riverside Chase... it was a country dance though, so no complicated jumps or anything like that. They want me to join them every Wednesday at their dance group now, just for fun. I don't know though... I find it hard to mingle sometimes.
I particularly loved watching the Sailor's Hornpipe dance... it was really cute! It looked a bit more difficult than the Highland dances... but I wouldn't know I bought a lovely Triquetra necklace at one of the stands... it's pretty *grin*

I am happy for you Haldir! I am glad that you got to go to a Scottish Festival! The Scottish Festival that I go to every year at the Queen Mary has an Address of the Haggis. The older gentleman who says it is actually from Scotland. He has a very thick accent, so you really can't understand him in the noise even with a microphone. I have actually talked with him on several occations and you really have to concentrate to understand him. lol
I forgot to mention, check out me band at:
http://www.42ndhighlandersband.org
Try going to Hackle>A Drummer's Tribute to Veterans (scroll down to the picture of the drummers, I'm the tenor and the only female.)
Probably won't be any pictures of me, they never seem to update it. grr...

I'm Scottish!
Of course, that's on top of being English, Irish, Native American, German (I think), and I believe French.
We'll just call that American. Good lord, we're quite the melting pot!
Anyway, could I please join?

Hello! I'm not scottish and I've never done anything remotely scottish, but i do love the culture does that count? I've taken some Irish dance classes, which I liked for about 2 weeks and then I started to hate my teacher with a passion, and all the little girls were trying to teach me... which was very sad... I've seen a sword dance at the fort on île ste. Helene, near Montreal, and i really liked it... so I think it would be fun to do that, but I don't have the time to try... anyway... I've rambled enough... can i join?

I'm a Germanic Celt.
We watched a whole bunch of highland dance at the Tacoma Highland games the other day.
But, I didn't get to go to the camp, it didn't work out. That's okay, though.
Now I'm not so sure if I want to do highland or Irish dance.

Ahh, yes. Being taught by little ones, humbling isn't it? I personally love being learned and schooled by little kids because it keeps my ego in check.

It just drove me crazy... they were telling me what kind of socks I should get... and I couldn't exactly tell them that I wasn't sure if I was going to continue dancing. So it got awkward very quickly.

Welcome to all who requested to join
Here are some dancers that I filmed during the festival that I worked at... my sister asked me what the songs were, and I couldn't tell her because I don't know what they are myself... so if anyone could name any of the songs in any of the dances, that would be extremely helpful!
Enjoyyyyyyy......
+ Sailor's Hornpipe
+ Soldiers' Dance
+ Sword Dance
+ Highland Dancers
+ Highland Dancers (2)
A few of my friends (one of them is one of the highland dancers in blue) are going to perform in the stage show "Scotland the Brave", for those of you who have heard of it... I think that's pretty awesome
