I'm a bit embarressed, as this thread is four months old, but I feel a little obligated to post here.
I don't usually listen to the genre, but R.E.M. is an awesome band. I also grew up listening to R.E.M.. Everyone in my town likes R.E.M.! What am I trying to say here? I live in their hometown.

Yay, another fan. There was a documentary type thing on last night which talked about them and Nirvana, perhaps other bands. I didn't watch it all as I was doing stuff in my room and my TV is broken, but I caught 5 minutes or so and it looked really good. My Dad enjoyed it anyways.

^ i saw bits of that, too. i was really annoyed that i didn't see the whole thing, because it looked really interesting. and footage of michael stipe with long hair is always amusing. lol
