The Tall Men - Meh, it was an OK western. A bit boring and predicatble, and I founf myself watching Robert Ryan more than Clark Gable, so I think the King must have been losing his powers by this point.

Fracture- Better than I thought it would be, but it was awesome. I like this sort of crime-drama thing. Ryan Gosling really should of gotten the Oscar....but oh well.

Keeping Mum-Looked funny, wasn't so much.

today i watched...

matthew bourne's swan lake. i could rave about this production forever. the score is incredible (the finale is my favourite piece of music ever - so passionate and full of yearning); the choreography is wonderful (matthew bourne is officially a genius); and the performances are all stunning (adam cooper sends shivers down my spine as the swan/stranger, and scott ambler is simply beautiful to watch as the prince). using a corps of male dancers was a stroke of genius - they have the same combination of power and grace as swans, so it works perfectly. plus, i have a major thing about male dancers, so getting to watch 14 of them onstage at once is bliss for me.

dear wendy. a wonderful little film, with another fantastic performance from the outsanding jamie bell. it raises some very interesting questions about gun culture without ramming any answers down your throat, which i like. of course the ending is completely ridiculous (i can't believe even american cops are that trigger happy), but it's well-handled so it isn't laughable; and there's apoignancy to it, too.

stage beauty. along the same lines as shakespeare in love, but in my opinion infinitely better. it's beautifully written and filmed; it's extremely touching in parts, and fantastically funny in others; and it brings up some interesting points about masculinity and identity. claire danes and billy crudup are superb in the leading roles (billy crudup in particular - there are moments when he breaks my heart); and their performance of the death scene from othello is absolutely amazing.

Pride and Prejudice - I LOVE this film, I'm not sure why so many people have a problem with it. The sets, costumes, the music, the scenery are all beautiful, and you can heartily believe you're in Jane Austen era. Keira Knightley, in my opinion, did a fantastic job as Lizzie (she is far better in these sort of roles than POTC) and Matthew Macfadyen and all the cast did a wonderful job in their roles. It just makes you want to go *squee* all over the place. :-)

The Prince and Me - it was the first time I've ever seen it and, sure, it was just another fairytale type movie, but I still liked it... romantic me :eyeroll: :P
and
Legally Blonde - again! :P

The Two Towers - Well from Haldir's death onwards... *sobs*... it had me crying in three places in 40 minutes.... darn the TV company for showing it... I dread ROTK and the "you bow to no-one" scene.... *collapses in sobbing heap*..

Superman Returns.

Started off better than I expected, then began to slowly trail off and then turned dismal.

That being said I had no problem with Brandon Routh, who I thought was very good. Especially as Clark.
Kate Bosworth wasn't as hideous as I was led to believe, but I still think Erica Durance is the perfect Lois Lane.
Kevin Spacey needed to NOT channel Gene Hackman (who was utterly abysmal as Lex) so much.

atonement. good, but not the best british film in years, as some have claimed - in my opinion, the best modern british films are gritty and working class (and most usually northern), not posh and polished. still, it was beautifully filmed and the scene on dunkirk beach was spectacular.

^ Thank you dear. I may need some brandy for TORK though.

In Which We Serve - Yay for British WWII films made by Brits with Brits in it! A well acted film (as you would expect from Noel Coward and John Mills) and just an all round good film. Much more realistic and believable than American WWII films from around the same time.
