I thought Hotel Rwanda was a wonderful movie..........so beautiful yet sad. It was made at I think the most perfect time for the world........ya know there are tons of countries at war right now so I thought it was the perfect movie. Also, it tells the story of something in history not many people know about. It was a tear jerker movie in my opinion.

I want to se Hotel Rwanda so badly! I love Don Cheadle and according to some people that I've talked to, it's really good.

Worth seeing?
I've read an interview/article about the person and events the film is based on, but I haven't seen it yet!

I just saw it yesterday. It was VERY well acted, but it's not for the faint of heart. Lots of dead bodies and suspenseful action Also, I mean...well I know that the protagonist's story is inspirational, and all the quotes adorning the DVD case say it's inspirational, but it really left me feeling kind of depressed, since the Tutsis and Hutus seemed to be fighting over nothing.

Yeah but I thought it was still pretty good. Now that you mention it, I did feel a little depressed at the end.......hmmmmmmmm.

my dad's in the air force so he does stuff like that all the time...

I recently watched this when I found it was showing on SBS, one of our free-to-air channels, and it reminded me of how good this movie is. I had seen it at the theatre when it came out, and it was gut-wrenching and sad in all its intensity. Well written, well acted, and captures the carnage of 1994 and brings it to life. At the time the events in Rwanda were happening, I only heard vague news reports of the genocide going on, and as Jack says in the movie 'I think if people see this footage they'll say, "oh my God that's horrible," and then go on eating their dinners.' and what is said in this movie by Col Oliver* "You're black. You're not even a nig-ger. You're an African." ... sadly, this was the thinking and was about what happened in my corner of the USA.
This movie is very much worth watching, and will be a timeless capture of the horrible events in Rwanda in 1994, just as the movie 'The Killing Fields' is of the horrible events that happened in Cambodia under the Pol Pot regime if 1975-1979.
*Col Oliver was the only semi-fictional character in this movie played by Nick Nolte. He was based on Canadian Lt. Gen. Roméo Dallaire who was the commander of the UN peacekeeping mission in Rwanda at the time and suffered serious PTSD from what he saw and dealt with. For more of the story of Lt. Gen. Roméo Dallaire, see the documentary Shake Hands with the Devil.
