*Nodnod* Yes... he is the preciousssss....

I really loved how JRK did that. She'd distract us with something that was going on in Harrys life then she'd throw something in about Snape or Voldy to catch us up with the Dark Side. Its kinda like "Ohh lookie at that..." "No wait look over there!" "WHAT IS THAT?" "Hey look! Snapes a bad guy!" "No, wait!? He is? No he's not"

>.< I just had an argument with myself....

And you know what? Truthfully, I really liked hearing what was going on with the baddies even more than wanting to know what was happening with the good guys. I've always been a bit of a villain fancier... ;)

*Jawdrop* Not LAREL?! *Tugs arm* Come back. Dont go to the Dark Side! they have cookies but we have FREE HUGS! (lol I'm watching the Free Hugs video on you-tube)

*Gives free hugs to Snape* If Harry would've gave Snape some Free Hugs at the beginning of book 1 we'd have a pretty boring story.... ^^

:teehee: Too late, I think I joined the Dark Side looong ago...

Very true. Wouldn't it have been odd if Snape's character had been nice to Harry for the first books. I don't think it would've fit very well with the story, and for some reason I don't think I would've liked Snape's character as much.

Same here. But i'm all for tall dark and handsome.... minus the grease.... ^^

If he'd have been nice to Harry and the gang then it wouldnt be the same as it is in real life. Everyone has someone that does not like them for SOME reason. And if Snape had been nice to Harry that'd be every teacher at Hogwarts. How boring. =p

Tall, dark, and handsome is a very good description. *le nod*

Isn't it interesting how in book one we would've never expected Snape to be such a two-faced character? We saw him as a bad man only; a man to be hated. Even through out books 2 and 3 we continue to see only the man who picks on Harry & co. By OotP though, we finally begin to realise that there's something more to him. JK Rowling is an absolute genius.. I mean, she practically planned all this stuff 17 years in advance. Wow...

:worship: JKR is a genius.

I really, really hope that when she writes the HP encyclopedia she includes a lot about Snape. All those memories of him barely scratch the surface of his character. I'd love to have an entire book dedicated to him that covers his entire life. It'd be amazing...

*creeps in*

It's been so long since I've been here, I doubt I can read through all I have missed. :P

I think by the looks of it, I'm the only one who liked Snape from the very beginning and thought he would be a good guy. *nods* But that's probably because I've been obsessed with not-so-good-characters for a long, long time. They always attract me. :teehee:

I'm still in denial though about DH. :disgust: I've already come up with a way for him to live, so I just ignore what happened in the book. 'Tis the only way to keep JF happy and not moody.

And we like the happy JF loads more than the moody JF.

Hehe.. you're pretty much right. Although, I think this thread is a bit biased since we all love Snape anyway, but whatever. :P

So, what's you're supposed way of keeping him alive? *ish curious* Personally, I'm rather glad he died. Through death, he was reunited with his true love. *dreamy sigh*

Ah, yes this could be another reason why I have avoided this thread. I'm afraid I don't like the whole Snape/Lily thing. Not at all. I think telling us they lived close to each other and knew each other before attending Hogwarts was over-doing it a bit and verging on the border of impossibility. I'm Ok with him feeling sorry for her and even James dying (because I honestly think even though he hated James he wouldn't have wanted to be the cause of his and Lily's death). But I don't "get" the whole Bryan Adam's thing.. ..."everything I do... I do it for yoooou"...

I liked Snape to be just Snape. Obviously he's had a bad life, we knew this and had glimpses of this before DH, and I always knew that he had more to him than the evil potions master, but still, I can't get over how overly sappy JK made his story to be. It might not have been so bad if she had hinted at it majorly in every single book, but for it to really explode almost in DH, was shocking to say the least.

No, I'm not happy about it really. I guess I'm the only one on AU that thinks this. I like my romance. I am a huge soppy mess for romance, but this one just didn't work for me at all. If anything, it was the easy way out for JK to explain what motivated Snape all this years.. "oh, yeah.. he loved Lily and he's doing it for her"..

On the other hand did this have to be his motivation? Would it have been so hard for the reader to believe that Snape was slowly becoming less enthralled with Voldemort and the Death Eaters? With his Half-Blood background was it not possible the deaths of fellow students and Muggles was starting to make him wonder if he was right to do what he was doing? Could the death of Lily and James, because of his actions, convinced him that what he was doing was wrong? And that because Dumbledore saw something him him, and saved him as it were, Snape was indebted to Dumbledore and that was how and why he did everything Dumbledore wanted? We could still see why Snape became how he was. Bitter perhaps because he had not wanted to be a professor at Hogwarts, maybe he had other plans for his life.

Ok, I'm done now. Feel free to throw Snape action figures at me. I just had to get that out. :P

Well you know... Potions Master... bezoar... in pocket at all times... works wonders for snake venom I'm told...

Nah, I'm sure you're not the only one who doesn't like the whole LilyxSnape pairing. I've heard some people say that it makes Snape seem like a weaker character. I definitely respect you for that. If we all liked the sames things the world would be a very boring place. *huggles Snape action figure*

Personally though, I didn't think it was too soppy at all, nor did I think she threw it at us all at once. I'm probably one of the few who believe this, but I suspected some sort of relationship between the two as far back as Order of the Phoenix. It was on a whim that I guessed this mind you. :) I couldn't've expected anything different from JKR. Love is a central theme in the books and to have it work in such a wonderful way only underlines that theme more.

Anyway, we've both got our different opinions and I'm sure this could go on forever, but I just wanted to get that out on the floor as well. :-D

*Nodnod* Those were some good questions JF! ^^ I personally liked the LilyxSnape thing. And i think one, if not the only reason that I like it is because: Some ppl who didnt like Snape to begin with will see that he was slightly justified in his actions toward Snape, because broken hearts and spirits is something that we all deal with sooner or later. (I'm not sure if that makes sense b/c i can say it and think it but its hard to explain) I think JKR wanted us to realize that Snape was good other than by his own choices, not to be a Death Eater, to turn from his old ways, etc. etc. But i think JKR needed an emotion/feeling to get the story through to the more closed minded of her fans... you know?

I may be totally off on this but thats just my theory. <3

That's interesting Inwe.. I've never thought of it that way before. So, you're saying that JKR wrote it that way in an attempt to appeal to both sides? She gave Snape a chance at love for all of us who wanted to see that kind of motivation, but also left it open to other interpretation. I'm positive that even without Lily's love as a factor, he could have made the change from bad to good just as well.
