Oh, man I cannot tell you how many times I have posted my displeasure of his death. It's just something that really gets to me ya know?

For a start. I don't see him dying for Elizabeth. I mean she was away and safe, and he cut the rope so she couldn't come back and help right? Well then what happens? He could either have a) jumped overboard, followed her and helped her and everyone else, or b) actually put up a fight before he died.

He didn't sacrafice himself. He was merely killed because the writers couldn't think of anything else to do with him. And that shows in the film. It wouldn't have been too bad if Bootstrap had shot him, I mean there's nothing much you can do against a bullet, but with a sword? Against one of the best swordsmans out there?

Ok, rant over. :P

I understand, JF! it does have a way of getting to you...

that is very true... I guess when you say it that way he did but he also didn't die for Lizabeth... I guess to me the way they wrote it made it seem like he died for her because the second he turns around from shooting the rope he's stabbed so it's not like he had a chance to fight and the last deed he did was save Lizzie (if that makes sense ). But I can see where that could've been VERY easily avoided. With either of those things you listed.

I don't understand that either... how could the writers not think of anything else to do with him when I can think of SOO many things to do with his character? but you have to remember that it wasn't like Bootstrap and Norrie got in a swordfight and Bootstrap beat him... it was basically an unfair, Norrie turns around and gets stabbed thing. :annoyed2: however that is better than them getting in a swordfight and Bootstrap somehow beating Norrie... gee, how I sometimes wish I could've stepped in and written some of AWE! lol ;)

It's probably getting to me more, that in two different media's this year, the one thing I didn't want to have happen, happened. (Meaning two of my favourite characters have technically "died" this year). I think I jinxed them or something. :-(

Yes, I see what you mean. Dying for Elizabeth, would to me mean, Elizabeth's life was threatened by Bootstrap, Norrie lept to her rescue, and (a little unbelievable admittedly) he gets stabbed by Bootstrap instead. Now that is clearly a sacrafice. As you said, they way it is in the film, it could go either way, and I don't think that is satisfactory.

Lol, I feel that way sometimes as well. :P No-one will ever convince me that his ending was "good".

[I'd like to think I'm a reasonable person, and I can see both sides of an argument... but in this case I am unmoving :teehee:]

Soo.. a while ago I said I wasn't much of a Norrie fan. Truly, I am still not. Needless to say, he is growing on me. He is very much a hero that got a depressingly unfair end.

Another reason for this sudden change in attitude toward Norrington is the fact that I've been reading Norrie/Liz fics a lot lately. *hides* I know many of you think that Elizabeth doesn't deserve Norrington, but I really do like that ship. It shows a side of James Norrington that I've never seen before.

I am more of a Norriebether myself than a Willibether.... I still don't believe she is good enough for him, but for his part, I like it. :D

awww, poor JF! I'm sure you had nothing to do with it though... maybe it's the kind of characters you like? (look at me. my fave characters in several movies have basically died too...(Beckett, Anakin, Norrie ect) if you don't mind me asking who was the other favorite character who died?

yes, you have a point... that would be him sacrificing his life for her, you are right. I never really thought about it quite like that, but now that you bring that to light it makes perfect sense... all of it. Although I have to say it makes me sadder because now I feel like he really did die for nothing and there's not even a back up of saying 'he died for Lizzie'... I guess in the long run he still sorta did.... but you know. (I kinda liked it better before you said all that so clearly and opened up my eyes ;) oh well I guess I'll just have to still tell myself he died for Lizabeth... even if deep down I know the sad truth)

glad to hear I'm not the only one ;)

(that's totally understandable  there are some things I won't budge for too :P)

hey, Larael! :bye2:

Well, I'm happy to see you here and to hear that you're growing a little fonder of our dear friend Norrie. :-D in truth he needs more people who appreciate him and what he did in the PotC trilogy.

I dunno.... Lizzie may have deserved Norrie (I mean if you can say she was good enough for Will you probably have to say she was good enough for Norrie ;) in a Will fan's POV at least) in my book but I still can't quite put them together.... I guess it'll always be the diehard Willabether in me. :P (however, as I said I do think if Will had died and really died that Liz may have chosen Norrie )
yup, Norrie's a character who has multiple sides that show at different times... even if to the average viewer he looks like a bland, normal character.

Hehe.. and I'm happy to be hear. :) Oh, don't get me wrong I am a die-hard Willabether, but there's something about the idea of James sort of taking in Elizabeth and marrying her [for that is how I would want their story to go] that's sooo romantic. And most of you should know how much of a die-hard romantic I am as well.

The fanfic is even better if Elizabeth actually has some sort of revelation where she realises that she's treated Norrie like.. well, not nicely and asks in a way for forgiveness. Those are the best in my eyes. It actually makes the story more plausible.

Anyhoo, thanks for letting me join this club. I hope my insight and opinion of our James Norrington may be broadened by you wonderful fans. :-D

I do understand that.... and it does have a sweet air about it. although for some reason it's just not in Lizzie's character, I think. But you're very right it does have a romantic feel... :P but only for a separate story from the rest of PotC... like a James and Elizabeth adventure or something :P... for the actual PotC trilogy it has to be Willabeth with Norrie on the outside looking in... it's got a tragic feel for Norrie about it... and for some reason I've always been attracted to the tragic people. Not to mention I also get my romance between Will and Lizzie. :teehee: ;)
(hopefully that made sense... :erm:)

I do agree with you there! Although I think at the end of AWE right before Norrie died she realizes it and she feels sorry for it.

well, sure! Why wouldn't we let you join?  I'm sure it will :teehee:... and I'm sure we can convert you into a die-hard Norrie fan in no time.... :teehee:

I think Norribeth is probably one of the few "noncanon" POTC pairings I like. Several of you have said it's a bittersweet or doomed pairing, and I agree with that. I also think that Norrie loved Elizabeth just as much as Will did, since he made the choice to let her go with Will in CotBP even if it broke his heart.

[Shameless plugging time, aka here's a Norrie poem I wrote a while ago that I thought y'all might want to read: http://arwen-undomiel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=837452#837452]

hey, Anie! I totally agree with you there! Even if the feelings weren't mutual between Norrie and Lizzie and even if he knew it Norrie still loved her just as much as Will did. ooo, that's the one I read and reviewed, right? Loved it! *thumbsup*

and why was that? We only basically agree on everything. ;) ;) aye, Norrie was remarkable. *takes tri-corner hat off in respect :P*... speaking of tri-corner hats haven't you always wanted one? I have! They are totally awesome! I would take one over a plain old baseball cap any day. :teehee: you're welcome! :-D hey, for my writing a poem assignment in school I should've written a poem on something to do with PotC. :erm: :P

Ah yes. No reason I should expect us to agree again. :P I want a tri-corner!!! I have to put up with a dumb foam Indiana Jones-type hat that's stapled into a tricorn for my Elizabeth costume but somehow it's not the same. :erm: ah well.
