Welcome Revenge and Elanor (ish slightly scared by having two mods in the club).
My favorite character would have to by Lyra, I just think that she is perfect, a bit of a rogue,

I would love a reptile for a daemon, or a large cat, like a tiger, or a panther like Asriel. But after taking the test, it says I should have a racoon. Wow. Thats kind of not what I was expecting. Second time around another racoon?!?!?! Grrr. Oh well.

I dont know if you guys have heard or not, but there are dozens of groups starting to form and trying to boycott the movie. I was just moseying around on Facebook earlier and there were like twenty or more groups trying to get people to not see it, or read the books. Personally, I think this is going a bit far...

I'm really annoyed with the anti-Compass groups on facebook so I joined the "I will see "The Golden Compass" and you will get over it." group.

I'm not even going to acknowledge what stupid actions they do. It's petty.

Anyhow. [goes off to read more]

Btw, Happy Thanksgiving for those in the US!

I was insulted by that I can can tell you.

OMG, the groups are so annoying. Idiots. I've joined "I will see the Golden Compass and you will get over it", "I'm going to see the Golden Compass and I'm proud of it" and "Boycott the boycott of the Golden Compass".

Have you noticed that there isn't any real The Golden Compass groups on facebook? Like there's boycott ones and there's anti-boycott ones but none that are like, "Hey come join if you like these books, blah blah" ?

Yeah, I joined two of the groups... because I am cool, lol.

So the release is getting closer, and I was going to enter to win a chance to see the premier in London, but I was lazy and forgot about it.

Yay! My daemon is a Lynx named Calanon! :D
The description was pretty accurate, except for 'modest'. I'm not modest. :)

Haha. The Golden Compass Boycotters Boycotters. Watch people tack another Boycotters to the end of that.

Argh. :p It's like Harry Potter except more petty.

I've been reading through the book now---I'm probably 3/4 past and I just can't help but sometimes get irritated by Pullman's writing? He jumps around from Lyra's point of view to omnipotent back to Lyra and I just don't know. It just gets on my nerves and it's a bit anti-climatic.

Amen to that! (The irony was intentional :P) and to everybody else you mentioned it, I just quoted Kit because she was the first one I saw!

Apparently my Deamon is a jackle named Erasmus. How cute is that?

The second time I took it I got a raven named Aradian. I like him, especially his name.

Kit, I noticed the same think about his writing. Very vivid, very engrossing, but jumpy. It does get annoying.

[nods] That's my only complaint with the book so far. That and the fact that how he writes Lyra isn't very believable to me. She's -way- too mature to be eleven. Trust me, some things that Lyra witnesses and hears about. I would be -freaking out- if I was eleven and heard/saw all of that.

Which is why I'm 70% sure that I will probably like the film better because it won't be based on how Pullman writes, it'll be based on his fantastic ideas and Nicole Kidman + Daniel Craig?

Score.
