i just saw National Treasure 2 and the trailer was before. (that was the best part of the movie!). I am so excited! Is it just me or did William (Peter) get more hot? Is that even possible???

Sorry for my boy obsession...lol

But yeah I am so excited. I love all of them, they look SO much older, ESPECIALLY Lucy and Edmund. I just watched the LWW last night, so it was cool to see the trailer after. One thing i didnt know is that they came back in the other books; i've only read the Magician's Nephew (well, half atleast) and the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

:bounce: same here! And actually I didn't realize they came back either until several months ago.... And I've just started reading the books for the first time... (well, my mom read them to me a long, long time ago... so that doesn't count ) they're all fantastic! And actually the kids are in, what is it, almost every single book, right? Although so far I've only ready The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Magician's Nephew, and Horse and His Boy but they're in two of those... although they're grown up in Horse and His Boy.

well prince caspian isn't too bad himself. he's gorgeous! i've watched the trailer alot b/c i love his accent, even if it is unofficial. but the trailer is amazing. the movie comes out on my friends birthday, which is pretty neat.

Actually, all 4 kids are only in 3 of the books (Lion/Witch/Wardrobe, Horse/Boy and Prince Caspian). Lucy and Edmund are in Dawn Treader and they plus Peter are in Last Battle. Different kids named Jill and Eustace take over for Silver Chair and most of Last Battle and for Magician's Nephew there are the two "original" Narnian children named Polly and Digory. Whew. That was a LOT of explaining.

I'm excited about seeing this movie also! I love all the books, and I hope they continue to make the movies. Although, I must say, I was dissapointed in the casting of Prince Caspian. He just doesn't fit the part right. I like everything else though, and if he is a good actor, I won't mind at all.

Oh, I guess you're right...it's been a year or so since I read Horse/Boy so I didn't remember that. And then again, is Lucy in that one or is she gone too? Oh, heavens, no! Silver Chair is one of my favorites! That might just be because I like that kind of story, but it's really awesome! I mean, there's a creepy witch (pretty much Jadis in a different skin) that turns into a huge green snake, and a bunch of giants, and a Marshwiggle, and I just love that story. The story of Susan is a pretty sad one...I guess by the time Last Battle had rolled around, she had "forgotten" all about their adventures in Narnia and was trying to grow up and forget all about such "childish things". Let me see if I can dig up the quote...



Sorry, that was quite a bit longer than I thought it was. But I hope that explains it...that's why Susan and Edmund are constantly changing places as my least favorites. I can't decide which one I dislike more, as terrible as that sounds.

Yesh, I'm pretty sure Peter and Caspian will have a tough time competing to see who can capture most of my attention.

Let's see...Pevensies appear in all of the books except The Silver Chair and The Magician's Nephew, I believe, though they are not always main characters. Personally, H&HB is my favorite of all the books...

Yes, about Susan. She was always my favorite Pevensie, from when I first read LWW. It's probably an older sister thing. So when I read TLB, I was so confused and heartbroken I abandoned all of Narnia (ESPECIALLY anything with the Pevensies in it; I think I could still take TMN and H&HB) until the movie came out. I understand that Susan was always a pretty conflicted character, but I think that was one of the reasons I sympathized with her. Seeing Lewis abandon her at the end of the series made me feel hopeless and lost--and like most times I disagree with stories, it felt like a personal insult. I think I understand his reasoning behind the event now, but I still don't like it, and I think the drastic change in character described in the above quote is innacurate description of her childhood character--and while it's possible she changed, I really do not see the point. What happened to "Once a queen of Narnia, always a queen of Narnia?"

Ah, okay, thanks. Yes, it's very very good!! I've always loved it. If you like Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, you'll fall in love with Puddleglum. He's awesome.
Oh, she is? I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, mate! I think Lewis may have been trying (conciously or subconciously) to parallel Christians who go astray later in life, giving up the "childish" beliefs in Jesus, etc., and Susan's sensibility was just an explanation for her turn away from Aslan. BUT I'll stop there, so the moddies don't come and hurt me. Well, the thing about me is, I'm a very loyal person. So I can't imagine betraying my friends or family, and I can't understand any character who is a traitor. With Edmund it's kind of a dislike which turned into tolerance but resurfaces whenever I read/watch Lion/Witch/Wardrobe; with Susan, I'm sorry to say, it's a sudden, harsh, and terrible betrayal right at the end, so I always have that knowledge of what she'll do later when I see her in the earlier stories and it kind of colors my opinion of her. In the earlier stories, she's not necessarily bad, just sensible, which I can respect. But forgetting about Narnia...that I can't accept.

yeah i never really understood why Susan grew up and just "forgot" about Narnia.i mean whats childish about a parallel world?

i dont mind the choice for Caspian.the only thing i dont agree with is the age,in the book i think Caspian isnt much older than 13/14 and the actor who plays him is in his twenties.he is kinda good looking though.

Exactly! We agree but in different ways. While you see that ending and refuse to accept Susan, I see Susan and refuse to accept that ending. If her rejection actually made sense I would loathe her as a character. But I just can't see the child Susan I've always loved and this invisible adult-Susan lining up.

That's interesting...I feel terrible about it though, because I remember being a little girl and reading Narnia with my mom. The Pevensies are like my brothers and sisters or something. Susan I never really liked very much when I was younger, though, because I didn't appreciate the fact that she didn't just straight-up believe like Lucy did. I guess now that I'm older and I really understand all of it, I don't entirely hate Susan, but I don't like her much either. I suppose Lewis did have to put in some sensibility, though, to balance it all out.

...anyway. Back to Prince Caspian so the mods don't hurt us. Do any of you remember the scene where Susan and Lucy are dancing through the Narnian countryside with a group of dryads and Baccus and such, and Aslan is healing the sick and such? I can't wait to see that onscreen, it's such a beautiful chapter.

To the above quote, no, I think that's the point. Once a queen of Narnia, always a queen of Narnia. I think that Susan's end is something that Lewis left to the imagination, but he gave us enough hints. I don't think that Susan never returns to Narnia, because that isn't really in keeping with the foundation on which Lewis draws. I think it's safe for me to bring up the point that, as Lewis confirmed that the Chronicles of Narnia were representative of his faith and therefore discussion of that fact is literary, as a general rule Christians don't believe it's very easy for a person to permanently leave their Christ. Most would agree that there's a difference between walking away and purposely renouncing. It's pretty clear that Susan didn't get up one morning and say, "I'm not going to believe in Narnia anymore- Aslan, I've decided I don't want you." It seems that she was embarassed or inconvenienced by knowledge of Narnia, so she just tried to get rid of it. I firmly believe that Susan would come to her senses someday. I've always sympathized with her because I don't have easy blind faith like Lucy, and I know that's something many people admire about the latter. Like someone already said, she can just believe without doubt. Susan couldn't (and neither can I).
Susan's smart, but not always wise. But I think her soul will win out in the end.
