Okay...after three years of hearing my friends rant and rave, and having heard that this new season will be a 'turning point', I have finally decided to become a LOST fan and follow this show. :D

I haven't seen the newest episode, but I saw the overview-type episode, and that helped a lot...but I'm so depressed.
Why did Charlie have to die? *sob* I loved him! Even when I was just overhearing about his part in the story...with Claire and Aaron...AND he's, you know, Dom, so I have to love him a little already...
and then he DIES. I hope I get to see more of him somehow. :(

Well...here are my overall impressions from what I've seen already...
1. Nobody kill me, but the whole Jack-Kate-Sawyer triangle looks like it's terribly annoying. I'm relieved I missed all of the drama up to this point. Not that I don't like any of them...I really haven't seen enough of the show to form an opinion...but the whole problem between them seems like it would annoy people who had to sit through three seasons of "maybe, maybe not..."
2. Ben seems really, really heartless and cruel. Sorry, please don't hurt me, I know he has a lot of fans here. *ducks* I'm just saying...I don't think I'd ever want to run into him.
3. I don't get Locke. One minute I like him, the next he's killing people to stay on the island? He seems like a good leader sort of personality and then he's totally untrustworthy. Eh.
4. I wish Charlie wasn't dead. Oops, ranted about that already.
5. Who were the Others originally and why do they live there? Or is that still a mystery? And is the whole island a government cover-up or something?
6. Erm...I've heard you guys reference 'Teams' as for who supports which leader...could you clarify who is on who's side, please? *confused*

I am so glad about how this show is turning out. When I was hearing about it a few years back I was suspicious about it closing all of the huge story gaps satisfyingly, but it seems like they'll be able to. This looks like it's going to be awesome. :D

I absolutely agree, I mean, come on, he has leadership experience! Gah, I really hope he finds Nadia (or me...hahaha...kidding)....she's just way too cool :P

I think it's funny how every time I watch Lost, I think I have an idea of whats going on but by the end I'm clueless....

However, I've been discussing this with people at work and we think that we know who was in the coffin at the end of Season 3 and why Jack wanted to go back to the Island. But, I'm not sure for certain....we think it could be Hurley...because, Hurley spent the entire episode wanting to go back and the tension between him and Jack continued building....because Jack wanted to stay...Hurley wanted to go...because of his visions....In contrast to the end of Season 3 Jack had wanted to go back...he grew a beard even! :teehee: Oh and at the Funeral he had told them he wasn't a friend or a family member...and those were all the things that happened during the basketball scene with Jack and Hurley in the Mental hospital... However, that's just too tragic to think about :P

Did anyone else find it interesting how the other disturbed man could see Charlie as well when Hurley and the others were outside?

*sniff*

I may have to abandon you guys and hope over to Lost Media (if they've actually updated the site) for my long awaited review. DD doesn't seem to be around here much, so if someone would take pity on a poor London barber.... ? :guilty:

Banana_Republic: Wow... Michael. I hope he comes back and explains some things to us about the island. :D

Sidawethiel: Yay, more Sayid love. <3 :D People so underestimate him. Oh yeah, and that disturbed guy...that was really weird.

Riniel: *squee!* *uberflyingtacklehugglethingy*

My fellow Merry fan is among us! Oh, I'm so, so, so pleased to see you here. You're going to LOVE Lost... although I'm a bit afraid you're going to get confused if you haven't seen any of the other seasons. Surely one of your friends owns them? Do try and see if you can borrow them... it would really be great for you.

Now in response to your thoughts:

1. Admittedly, a lot of us find Jack, as a main character, sometimes annoying. And thus his relationship with Kate is annoying. However, although I'm not overtly fond of the triangle (I do sometimes wish Kate would just choose!!), it adds a lot of tension in the show. So I guess I appreciate it.
2. ARGH, you insult my Ben! I angry! ...just kidding. :P Each to their own dear, but don't make quick opinions of Ben, please. He's a complex, very complex character. Yes, he is the bad guy, but he's also very human. Did you see or hear anything of the episode where it flashed back to his childhood? It was horrible, his father blamed him for his mothers death, and he was a nerdy, lonely, scared little boy with a really screwed up view of the world. I've come to look at him as the best villian of all time.
3. Locke is frustrating. I don't like Locke much either, just because he's got some weird ways... and he's a bit too self-centered imo. Endangering Boone proves that. Locke has gradually morphed into the island 'bad guy', but at the same time... a lot of people love him, because he's a good leaderish figure. But you must know one thing: on Lost, the characters are just insanely complex like that. It's hard to stereotype anyone as "good" or "bad"... because they aren't. For one thing, they are almost all redemptive characters, and the bad guys are bad but have a lot of good in them too. Gets a bit confusing at times, admittedly.
4. And I know, poor Charlie! He was my favorite, and I just so mad/sad/crazy/full of angst when he died. But it was such a noble, heroic death. I'm just glad that it looks like we'll see more of him through flashback/forwards.
5. Meh... that's one of the mystery's of Lost. But The Others are explained a lot in Ben Linus episode in the 3rd season. See if you can get ahold of it.
6. Well, in this episode, Locke took one group of people, and the rest went with Jack. I think that's what we mean by "teams."

JF/ST: Oh you poor dear! Admittedly, I'll never be able to do as good a job as DD, but I'll try for your sake. =]

Lost: The Beginning of the End Recap

Instead of the typical eye, we zoom out from a pile of fruit, which is crashed into by a red car, on close chase by cops. The driver is revealed to be Hurley, who is running insanely from the police. Eventually, as they capture and cuff him, he begins yelling "I'm on of the Oceanic Six!! I'm one of the Oceanic Six!!" While the police are interrogating him later, they replay footage of him in a convenient store, casually checking out. Suddenly, his eyes catches something, and he runs out of the store in panic, knocking things over on his way out. It turns out that the guy interrogating him is actually Ana-Lucia's former boss, and he asks Hurley if he ever knew her. Hurley denies it, looking down at the table. When the cop leaves to go get a doughnut (how original, right?) Hurley suddenly see's Charlie in the 2-way mirror, swimming towards the glass. Suddenly the glass breaks, water comes spilling into the room. Hurley jumps up and begins pounding on the door, but see's Charlie's face in there too. The officer comes in, and threatens to throw Hurley in an mental institution. With tears of gratefulness in his eyes, Hurley responds, "Could you please?"

Back to present day island. Jack and the rest of the crew are waiting for the helicopter to arrive. Ben is still tied to the tree, Rousseau guarding him. Earnestly, he begins pleading with her to bring Alex somewhere safer, because there are very bad people coming. He begs Rousseau to help save "his daughter". Rousseau responds by punching him viciously in the face.

Hurley and Bernard are on the beach together... and Hurley says that, in all this time he's been on the island, he's always wanted to do a cannonball in the water, and never has. Bernard tells him to go for it. It wonderful slow motion, Hurley has a perfectly happy moment and does a cannonball into the ocean, earning laughter and smiles from Bernard. Suddenly, they see Desmond rowing up... everyone on the beach (Sawyer, Juliet, Bernard, Hurley, Sayid...etc...) crowd around him. Almost frantically, Desmond is warning them that this isn't Penny's boat, that they don't need to go with these people. Everyone is talking at once, Hurley keeps trying to interrupt with inquiries about Charlie, until finally he yells, "WHERE'S CHARLIE?!" Desmond tells them of Charlie's death, and everyone seems truly stricken; Sayid even turning away to hide his tears. But Hurley is the most stricken of all. Sawyer wants to contact Jack and the others to tell them about it, but Sayid says it wouldn't be a good idea. The satelliate phone is probably bugged, and if the people coming are bad, it wouldn't do for them to hear. Sawyer argues. Hurley snatches the phone from Sawyer's grasp and flings it into the ocean, ending the argument. The group begins marching into the woods, to find Jack.

Back with Jack: someone calls on the satellite phone and demands to talk to Naomi. Jack lies, and tells them she's off getting firewood. Then he turns to look at her dead body, and what do you know, it's gone. He immiediately blames the still tied-up Ben, demanded of him "Where IS she?" Kate finds two trails, one with blood and one without. Jack and Rousseau go to find her on the one with, dragging Ben along with them because Jack doesn't trust him. Kate follows the other trail by herself. Jack's trail turns out to be a dud... Rousseau points out that it looks like she doubled back. Jack feels for his satellite phone, and notices that it's missing. Angrily he turns to Ben. Ben admits that he saw Kate steal it from Jack when she was hugging him goodbye, but he didn't say anything because, "You punched me Jack, and I owed you one."

Meanwhile, while Kate is making her way along the path, Naomi suddenly jumps out of the tree and holds a knife to her throat, demanding the phone. Kate is reluctant to give it at first, but eventually hands it ove.r Naomi talks to Phone Dude, but covers up for Locke, lying about how she was injured. After giving him some needed information in order for them to come to the island, Naomi begins fading. "Tell my sister I love her," she tells Kate before she dies.

Flashforward: Hurley is in the pyscho hospital, when's he's visited by one Matthew Abbadon, who claims to be a lawyer for Oceanic. He offers Hurley an upgrade to a nice facility. (Note: this guy looks, feels, and seems very, very evil.) Hurley asks the guy for a business card, which he claims to have forgotten. Suddenly, he asks Hurley: "Are they still alive?"

Back at the island, Sawyer is making some very sweet attempts to comfort Hurley about Charlie's death. Hurley makes a big hint that he just wants to be alone, so Sawyer goes on ahead. Suddenly, Hurley loses sight of the group, and finds himself Lost. (sorry, hehe.) He rushes ahead, only to find himself at Jacob's shack. He walks up to it (*cue eerie music*) and looks through the window and see's a man in a rocking chair. Then suddenly, an eye presses to the window, scaring Hurley and making him stumble backwards. He begins running away from the place, and finally stumbles. Closing his eyes, he seems to will it away, which apparently works. When he opens them again, Locke is there and asks to be led back to the group. They meet up with Sawyer, Sayid, and the rest, and then meet up with Jack and co. Admid the moment of happy reunions (alex hugs Juliet, Bernard hugs Rose, Sun hugs Jin) Claire wanders through looking confused. Desmond steps forward, uncertain how to tell her, but Hurley brushes past him and says he'll do it. In a truly heart-wrenching moment, Hurley tells Claire of Charlie's death. She breaks down crying, and he holds her, also sobbing himself. The rest of the group looks on in pained silence.

Flash forward: Hurley is painting a weird picture of an igloo on the hospital grounds, when another mentally instable person tells him that there is someone watching him. It turns out to be Charlie, who approaches him, asking him not to be afraid. Charlie says that he is both dead and "here" at the same time, which Hurley pronounces an impossibility. Charlie and Hurley talk briefly about his death, and Charlie acknowledges that he knew he was going to die. But when Charlie starts to talk about the island, Hurley get's disturbed, and covers his ears and closes his eyes. Though he's humming to block out the sound of Charlie's voice, he hears, "They need you," before he opens his eyes again. Charlie is gone.

On the island Ben and Rousseau turn up... suddenly Jack lunges from out of the bushes, knocking Locke to the ground. He wrestles Locke's gun out of hiis hand and points it to his head, threatening to kill him, "You wouldn';t kill me Jack," says Locke, "Just like I wouldn't..." Jack pulls the trigger, which only clicks. Locke appears to be in shock, and tells Jack that it's not loaded. Kate shows up and tells everyone that Naomi is dead.

Once all information is exchanged, Locke tells the group that if they want to survive, they should come with him to hide out in the Others old encampment. Jack protests, but Hurley and Claire join Locke out of loyalty to Charlie. (Earlier, Locke played on this loyalty by persuading Hurley this was the only right thing to do in light of Charlie's death.) Some others Losties join Locke; including Sawyer (who tells Kate, "I'm only doing what I've always done... surviving.") Danielle, Alex, and Carl. The Ben delivers the acclaimed best line of the episode by saying, "Jack, with your permission, I'd like to go with John." Cue sad Jack face.

Flash forward: Jack visits Hurley in the hospital, and they make small talk for a while (including Jack mentioning he'd like to grow a beard.) The discuss the paparrazzi of being a Oceanic 6 survivor. After generally accomplishing nothing, Jack turns to leave, and then turns back asking Hurley "You won't tell, will you?" Hurley says he won't. He then says something along the same lines of what Jack said to Kate in the last seasons finale, "We need to go back." He also apologizes with Jack for going with Locke, saying he should have stayed with Jack.

On the island Jack and Kate are sharing a bittersweet moment reminiscing at the cockpit fuselage, when they here an incoming chopper. They go towards the sound of it and meet up with a *coughREALLYCUTEcough* bearded guy, who asks, "Are you Jack?"

And thus it ends.

Yay!! I could watch it! :P

Well I have to say that I'm completely enthousiastic about the flash forward! This Charlie apparition, I say woooooow!! :P

I was a bit desapointed though with the scene between Hurley and Claire... well... I was expecting it so badly and when it came... yep! it didn't make it to me!

But I loved the next scene where the survivors choose their group, it's an interresting idea but it's always sad when they are divided...

I can see that I'm not the only one annoyed by Jack, he keeps following by making huge mistakes and still would claim himself as a leader, oh boy! :duh:

Sida, you know I didn't think of that other mental patient seeing Charlie until I watched the encore episode tonight. But, didn't think too much into it because I was trying to recap everything for my mom. XD

Interesting thought. WHOA. I have to say that when I first saw that scene with Charlie, as happy as I was to see him -- it was almost torture for me. Just to see him, and then he's GONE. Like *poof* It was a love/hate thing for me. :P Kind of hard to explain.

MOVING on to happier things. :P I agree that Sayid should be leader. Or something. At least we need more Sayid! His appearance time is minimal at best. BAH! Locke has always gotten on my nerves, and although he might be right about these "rescuers" being bad, doesn't redeem him. :P Locke just needs to go away. *nod nod* And Jack....hmmmm....Jack. I just kind of feel bad for him because all he's wanted to do is get off the damned island, and now he has the opportunity, and everyone is telling him its a bad idea. :P But, I think he just needs to calm down. Do some Sayid consulting. XD

As for whoever is in that casket...I've had serious thoughts that it could be Hurley. But after how I reacted to Charlie's death, I'm not sure I could handle it. :P I just hope it isn't. Although the way its going now, it could be. BAAAAAH.

Tonight's episode was interesting.
Such a strange experience to watch flashbacks of the world's view on Oceanic 815. The beginning sequence was just awesome. Creepy, but awesome.
Ben was SOOO awesome! :P Stupid Sawyer for beating him into an even bloodier pulp. XD

"If you're going to be sleeping with my daughter, you could at least call me Ben." XD :roflmao: XD

And what is it with everyone but the Losties knowing everything about everybody? XD Its getting to be a bit ridiculous. Although, not a surprise that Ben knows everything. :P

I always get so confused during an episode, and then I get frustrated but realize, "Hey, it's LOST!" :P It wouldn't be Lost if it weren't totally confusing every single person watching. :P Just as long as EVERYTHING is summed up and all that at the end, I'll be satisfied. :P If anything is left unanswered, I'll go mad. XD

I, FM, have an announcement to make. If I know anything about myself, I'm going to be in mad, fangirly love with Daniel Faraday before this season is over. :swoon: Be he hero, villian, or wretched ne'er-do-well... methinks I love him. Hot, slightly insane, bearded, insecure man.

Sayid took initiative! Woohoo! And also, props to my fellow Sayid fans who agree that he should be given a bigger role.

I think that Sawyer needs to become the leader of Team Locke, and Sayid needs to become the leader of Team Jack. Then we'd have Team Sayid vs Team Sawyer!! Wouldn't that be amazing... tense... ooh, drama...

I'm really, really mad at Sawyer. Idiot. Oh look, here's a bloody man we're dragging around on a rope, let's beat him up some more just because he slights us a little. :explode: Talk about kicking someone when they are down!! Ugh! ...oh, and I allow Locke a grudging amount of respect for saving Ben's life... a very, very little respect.

Oh, but I do still like Sawyer a little for calling Ben "Yoda". ROFL. How awesome is that?

(By the way, JF, would you like me to make another recap for you?)

[warning: the following comments, however lame and unsubstantiel, may be spoilerish to those who haven't seen episode 3.]

OH GOOD HEAVENS. I LOVE LOST. I LOVE BEN. I LOVE SAYID. I LOVE DANIEL. I LOVE DES.

I even love Locke and his tea... how sweet.

WHAT an episode, what an episode!!!

First thing: I'm serious fangirling "The Headcase"!!! OMG, uber-cute, bearded, sensitive, geeky, awkward Daniel guy!!!!
<3333

Second thing: Ben LIVES! *happy dance* He looks cute in those glasses too!

Third thing: I agree with you MontanaB, we need to see more of Des! (and I love that shexy blue shirt... )
*chants with MB*
WE NEED MORE DES!

Fourth thing: Oh noes, Sayid angst! I admit this got to me more than Hurley or Jack angst... and when he shot T.E., and started crying, that was such a sad scene.

Fifth thing: I also feel sorry for Sawyer. That whole "playing house" scene really made me sad... because all Sawyer wants is to be with Kate and all... :'(

So overall I came to these conclusions about Ep3:

1. It had a lot of hot guys in it.
2. I'm more confused than ever.
3. Daniel Faraday is the adorableness. :notworthy:

...

Now I have a confession to make.

I can't decide if I'm pro-Jate or pro-Skate.

I can't make up my mind, aaaaaaaahhhh...

*goes insane*

Squeeee! Another awesome episode!!!

Okay...that ending totally freaked me out. That's AMAZING. It's INCREDIBLE. Especially after Sayid's "The Day I trust him..." comment.
:D (I'm liking Ben more and more as I watch this show. I mean, I don't like him in the strcitest sense: he's a bad guy, he does bad things, yada yada. But he's so darn FUNNY while doing them. Amazing. <3)

I like Sayid a whole lot, too! Despite the fact that...you know...he kills all these people and he's a torturer. But for some reason I like him. He seems smarter than a whole lot of people on the island. (*cough*Jack) Not that I don't like Jack, it just seems like he isn't a very good leader. I mean, come on. Trusting the freighter people? Has he learned nothing from the insanity of this show? :P

And what's the story with Des? I know his background and everything, but what does he act like? Is he generally cool-headed, more prone to extremes, etc? I haven't seen enough of him to judge him as a person.

And I feel sorry for Hurley. Whatever happened, I'm sure he was forced to do it. I like how he stood up to Locke. I wonder why he's going to end up regretting going with him.

*Note* So now we know Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, and Ben get off of the island. If Claire doesn't get off, I'm going to be SERIOUSLY angry. I hope the ghost of Charlie haunts whoever decided to leave her and Aaron behind for the rest of his days. :annoyed:
Although--does ben count as one of the 'Oceanic Six'? After all...he wasn't on the flight. How would he pull that off? (I'm certain he could find a way to leave the island; I mean, how would the public fall for him? If he was one of the 6, that is. Maybe he managed to sneak off and no one knows he's back. Then we could have two more spots to fill. Or I could just be wrong. I'm new to this, anyhow.)
At any rate, I'm really glad Sayid gets off. :) (It seems like, especially with his "House" comment, Sawyer will not be leaving the island. Eh. I can't decide whether I like Jate or Skate more, either. She goes so well with both of them that she seems like she's two different people! *headdesk*)

^I agree with pretty much everything you said.

Sayid=love. That guy can kill people all day and I still love him. Hurley's comment about "that breakdancing move you do with your legs" made me laugh like no tommorrow.

I just cannot imagine what could possibly happen for him to end up in the position he ends up it. It made me sad.

Anyway...I was for Skate, completely, but everytime Jack says something about Sawyer to Kate, my heart breaks. Jack needs love too!

^Yeah. I mean, I like Jack. I think he doesn't make a very good leader sometimes, but I still think he's a cool character and a good person. I feel sorry for him, getting caught up in the Kate triangle.

@RA: You know I was just thinking about HOW Ben gets off the island. I mean, is he going to be known as one of the "Oceanic 6"? It's absolutely bizarre! Because, WAY too many people would know that he WASN'T on that flight. But its LOST. :P They know what they're doing when it comes to stuff like this I suppose. :P

If he ISN'T known as one of the Oceanic 6, and there are really two more spots open, I would who it'd be. Even just that one spot left has me SOOO curious. :P

And then Sayid killing people! *SQUEEEEEEEEEEE*
Something just really sexy about him doing that. :P It shocked me that he did it to that guy on the golf course. Just because he hasn't been UBER violent lately. :P
And yeah, Hurley's line was BRILLIANT!

As for Jate/Skate...

I've kind of prided myself in trying to stay away from ships on this show. :P Especially concerning Jack, Sawyer and Kate. :P Okay, so I've supported Hurley and Libby, Penny and Desmond, Jin and Sun, Sayid and Shannon, and Charlie and Claire. But those are all OBVIOUS. :P We ALL know and support them and I think we can all agree to them. :P

But, when it came to the Jate/Skate argument, I never wanted to join the debate. :P I persoanlly a have never supported Skate...for many reasons, it just bothers me. :P And I never really paid attention to Jate (except when Kate kissed Jack, UBER SHMEXINESS) mainly because it was these two main characters, it felt too obvious.

BUT these past few episodes, I have to say...Jack is SOOO good at having that heartbroken-emo-puppy-dog-look WHENEVER he talks to Kate, it's almost instinctive for me to want them to get together. :P Just so Jack isn't emo anymore. :P That man needs a freakin' hug. XD And I blame Kate for getting Jack pulled into this triangle. :P

(Did that make any sense? XD)

Dude, that line when Kate asked Jack something, and he just goes, "because I love you." I squee-ed for a good ten seconds. It was brilliant.

But I love Skate. But I'm all for Jate too. It's impossible to choose. Let's just clone Kate.

Ah, more people who can't decide between Skate and Jate (both of which are hate to us viewers, because it leaves us in constant turmoil.)

RinielAranel: Yes, I know exactly what you mean about Ben. Although I think he's not *quite* as twisted as he appears... and one of these future episodes he's going to do something extraordinarily self-sacrificing or kind or noble, and all the viewers socks with be blown off. Des... um, Des is complicated. :P He's very generous, very dedicated to whatever-it-is he's fighting for at the moment, and truly loves people. In a lot of ways he reminds me of Charlie. He is mostly cool-headed, but not at all when he's been drinking of course.

Tar: YES, you expressed my opinion on Jack/Kate so perfectly! Yeah. Let's clone Kate.

It's like I'm more inclined to Skate, but with every Jack/Kate moment... I feel more sorry for Jack. He may be annoying and everything at times, but you still gotta feel sorry for the guy. Actually, recently I've been feeling more angry at Kate... because she won't make up her mind, and is causing BOTH of the guys angst.

MB: Ah... Jack's emo-ness is actually starting to grow on me. You know, I think I'm finally understanding the guy... emotionally instable as he is. Yeah, let's tackle-hug Jack. ROFL... that'd be awesome if some of the Losties just like group/tackle-hugged Jack.

I think the triangle is getting to be a little over done. I think they need to get another female on the island for Sawyer...I like him to much to be stuck with Kate...yes, I don't really like Kate... Wierd as this may be, I think Sawyer and Naomi woud have gotten along fairly well for what little we know about her...
I agree with riniel, Claire and Aaron better get off!
What happened to the Jack/Juliet thing that was going on there for a while?
I really hope Ben isn't being counted as one of the Oceanic 6 mainly because he wasn't on the plane...but also because it's more fun to try to figure out who else would get off...?
Oh! I just thought of a question that's been bugging me: How did the U.S. media get shots of the plane wreck? No one knows where the island is right? The survivors didn't film that and I doubt one of the others did... Did Naomi and them film it? Wait they couldn't because the helecopter piolet was watching the footage.... ???????
And what happened to everyone? Is is just me or does it seem like this big group of survivors has dwindled to 2 groups of like 10-15 each? Or have I just been missing people who are still at the beach?
