I gotcha.
I have always been interested in him, and I think it's unfair that on the whole he is remembered for his wives and what happened to them. As a King of England, it was deemed vital he had a male heir, and his various advisors told him that in order to have an heir, he had to ditch wife number whatever. And there were only so many times he could get divorced, so eventually other ways of getting rid of his wives were thought up to "save England". I actually feel sorry for him really, as the wife he truly loved (and who he demanded to be buried next to her when he died) was actually the one to give him a legitimate male, but died whilst doing so.
I'm pretty sure he had a variety of illegitimate children, but the eldest male (can't remember his name), even though not legitimate, would probably have been made King, as there would have been ways even then to try and prove it, and if there was even half a chance he was the King's son, most people would have believed it anyway, rather than having a female on the throne.

I'm looking forward to the movie, and I hope I'm not disappointed. I like the book, and while I know it's not historically accurate, from what I've seen of the "script" and other info, it looks like they've changed some stuff.
Natalie as Anne I'm interested in seeing. I think she'll do a good job. Scarlett as Mary, however... wouldn't have been my first choice, but I'll just have to wait and see.
What I want to see most is the costumes!

It looks good, though I've never read the book.

LOL my brother came in the living room while a commercial preview for it came on and he's like, sex movie!
I started laughing, thinking, yeah, that's a somewhat big part of the story...

Eh. From the previews, it looks to only have 2 intimate scenes?
Has anyone seen it yet? Any opinions? Thoughts?

Yes please!!! Wanna know!!!
I've read some critics so far and it's really have to get an opinion: some love it, some hate it...
And finally I was able to do a banner, what d'you think?! (OK with Natalie of course, but what can I say, she's astonishing! )

Ooh nice banner! I like it!
Well, what I heard from it was rather poor. Then again, the source was an annoying little girl in my history class who thinks Natalie is a horrible actress. Odd, seeing as she thinks Colin Farrel is more brilliant than Eric Bana. *shrugs* Oh well.

This just came out yesterday in the UK, and I've just come back from seeing it. Personally, I like LadyElarinya's brothers summary of it - it really is a sex movie. The acting certainly wasn't up to par [and don't get me wrong, I think Eric Bana, Natalie Portman, and Scarlet Johanson are all brilliant actors/actresses!], and every other scene it seemed like featured Eric Bana with one of the 2 girls.
Just a warning to those looking for a historically accurate movie - it's not. Sure, it follows the story well enough to a certain degree, but there was definitely some creative lisense involved as well. Overall, if you don't like the idea of adultery, [would-be] incest, sex, rape and heading chopping I wouldn't suggest see this movie.

Thanks for your review Larael!
I don't expect a historically accurate movie actually, I'm more interrested by the characters potrayed in it and the relationships between them (and by the nice costumes too, let'say it! )
If you had to rate it, how would it be?

Thanks for the review, Larael.
I think it's safe to say no films are historically accurate anymore, am rather disappointed about the 'sex' film part though. Shall see if I can get it on video, I want to see it sometime regardless.

I've yet to see a film that is historically accurate either, although sometimes, even though you can understand why it can't be 100% accurate, if that part of history interests you, and you know it's wrong, it can still annoy. What really gets me though is when a film says something like "all the events depicted in this film are true blah, blah, blah" and then you get to Wiki, and it's not.
Wow, I can't say I'm surprised really. The trailer made it out to be like a glorious costume melodrama, which if this was the 1940's it would be and would probably be quite well. But now this is the 2000's, there's hardly going to be 2 women and one bloke without something going on. Still, I'm sure the story could have carried the movie along without all the other stuff.

Haven't seen it yet because there are no local theaters playing it. *sigh* I would love to see it.

No problem. To give the movie some credit though, it does start out strong and the characterisation is well done, but once Mary has a bit of a rendezvous with the king it all goes to pot. Ah well. The costumes were amazing despite everything else. *shrug*
