I'm more of a Narnia than LotR purist too. I think it's mainly because the Narnia books are short and sweet. You don't need to change/cut/alter things because it's movie-able as is. Whereas LotR is huge and has a lot of stuff that isn't movie-able.

EXACTLY! I totally agree with that... They should stick to the story-line as much as possible, especially with this no-romance thing. It would be lovely to have NO romance in ONE movie...

^Though in my opinion, the Shasta/Aravis bits were more than enough. That one'll probably be full-blown too, but I'll shut up now.
Haha, I told a friend about this whole mess and she said the director should be stoned. I still haven't managed to calm her down all the way.
On the one hand...I'm glad they'll do a better job with Reepicheep than the BBC version did. My mom was watching that a couple days ago, and I saw that they just dressed a midget up in a mouse costume. Gave me a good laugh, it did.

I think that one day I shall just make my own movie just to prove that you DONT need romance of any kind to make it amazing Quite frankly I would have been very satisfied with a movie the way C.S. Lewis wrote it, but that's just me.
^ I agree with the Reep bits I actually quite like the BBC version (despite terrible special effects and such... But I DID imagine Polly to be a bit more soft-spoken)

Anie, Shasta/Aravis was/is more than enough romantic junk to add to the Narnia books you mean? you have a point... they probably really will enhance that storyline when they finally reach H&HB... although that's still quite a ways away.
wow, that's... violent. stoning the director... wow... you need to keep a close eye on your friend, Pip. Make sure she/he doesn't do something he'll/she'll regret.
they did what!? that would be hilarious to watch! Old, cheesy things always are (even if they weren't old or cheesy at the time)... Yes, thankfully they're doing a much, much better time this time around... I should probably see the BBC versions sometime though... just so I could say I've seen them.
Saira, you shall have to tell us when you do that... Personally, I still like romance in a lot of movies, although I too would've been perfectly fine with PC the way Lewis wrote it. I wonder what he would think about it if he were alive... hmmm (I've wondered that about Tolkien and the LotR movies before too though... )

Gack. If Caspian and Susan kiss, I will fall off my chair. And then storm out of the theater and probably cry myself to sleep. What a horrible thought.

^Oh dear, Nienor... I hope, for your sake, that it doesn't happen.

Yeah...see, they're cute, cause they do the flirt-fighting thing. I like those sorts of couples because they're usually more entertaining than mushy. Not that mushy is bad...it's just not something I want to see in Narnia, you know? It doesn't really have a place there.
I know...she's a lot like Eowyn that way, very strong-willed and driven. And when she gets angry, she gets scary.
I think I saw the LWW BBC when I was a lot younger, but I don't remember much of it. But yeah, BBC Reep is very funny.
And speaking of Reep...I saw a TV spot the other day in which he actually appears! He talked too...and I don't remember exactly what his voice sounded like, but I do know that it wasn't nasal to the point of being annoying, and it wasn't exactly what I imagined. I should go see if that's on YouTube or something so y'all can see...

^ Mushy IS bad. I mean just for me because I hate mushy
So the Aravish-Shasta thing to me is alright. I mean when I read the books, I dont even think of them as "flirting". Arguing just sort of becomes a habit more than anything, and you sort of fall into a rut with it. (I know this from personal experience. I did it all the time with one of my (distant) guy cousins ) But I hope that if they make a movie they will be nice about it. Otherwise your friend wont be the only one stoning the director Anie...

Yay, teh PD finally gets around to replying to the PC thread!
Pip, exactly! lol And it'll be so much fun to see that on the big screen... although they're gonna have to get just the right two young actors for it. Only the best of the best will be acceptable, IMO. they are extremely entertaining... not to say the ones who don't fight-flirt aren't, but still. I agree with you. "mushy-ness" has it's place, not in Narnia though... which is why I'm a tad wary of the whole Caspian/Susan thing, but who knows, they might be able to pull it off.
good comparison. like Eowyn...
I can only imagine what he must look like! actually I saw a pack-set of the BBC versions of LWW, The Silver Chair and PC just the other day. they looked interesting... if I had money to waste and throw around (it I had money AT ALL! ) I probably would've bought them.
lucky Anie!!! I haven't seen that TV spot yet, at least not that I remember. And he talks in it? Hm, your description of it makes me extremely interested to hear what he does sound like... maybe tomorrow or whenever I have the time I'll have to see if I can find it on YouTube.
Saira, come, come... not all mushy is bad. Look at the Disney movies or at chick flicks... sometimes those are good.
I'm sure they'll handle the movie with class... hopefully they will keep true to the characters of Shasta and Aravis. They have so far, although I must admit the Susan/Caspian thing has sort of made me have my doubts, but still. It might all work out and be very entertaining... as Anie has said you have to
"Keep your ming wide open." (or something like that... sorry if I'm mis-quoting you, Anie)

SQUEE! Reep is just so squishable! I cannot wait
However I just noticed that Mister PC has a spanish accent. Hmm... I think that they should do a dubbed English (like with proper English accents) version Im just so conditioned with these books. Curses to reading too much and having been obsessed with England.
@Cal - But... but -does big puppy eyes- But I dont LIKE chick-flicks. Ask any of my friends. They wont even ask me to the movies unless it action/drama or fantasy. I must admit that I do love Disney... But mostly the ones that dont have alot of mush. Lion King and Mulan... Oh well I DO like Beauty and the Beast But that be the only one.
But if they infect precious Narnia with nasty mushy then they better watch out. :Grr:

What I'm mostly annoyed by right now is the fact that it looks like Susan will be doing a good deal of fighting...did she fight in the book? I think I'll have to read it today and find out.

thanks for posting that, Bala! (lol, it saved lazy, ol' me the trouble ) Cool! well, he sounds... ummm, not quite like I thought Reep would, but he doesn't sound that bad. just different. I would be interested to know who his actor is... although overall, he's just adorable! I feel just like Lucy right now! I want to pick him up and give him a big hug!
Saira, I noticed that Caspian doesn't sound quite right, that's for sure... it surprised me too... Ben Barnes IS English, isn't he? And he did just fine in Stardust at least... *looks it up* aye, it says he was born in the UK.
not like chick flicks? wow... weird! I ADORE action/adventure/drama and fantasy too... but sometimes a good chick flick is more than welcome. I thought all Disney movies had "mush" in them (as you put it )... hm, whatever. Each person is different, I suppose.
Nienor, I don't think she did that much fighting in the book. I think she mostly goes around with Aslan and Lucy and helps them. but I guess that doesn't really annoy me that much... if they want to make her shoot the bow more I'm cool with it. but as I've already said "each person is different."

EDDIE IZZARD! *Runs in circles until he passes out* DUDE, Eddie Izzard is GOD. I would go see this movie just for him, even if I didn't like CoN.
*Laughs evilly* Trust me, he'll be perfect.

I reckon that the fact that Reep has this really crazy deep voice makes it so ironic, its ok Hes just so... squishy! Reminds me a little of my utterly squishable bunny wabbit Except that I can actually hug my bunny, and hes a lot more furry.
But... but... -mutters darkly- Stupid actors. Putting on fake accents and ruining our Precious...
Well Cal, I dont think that ALL Disney movies have mush.. Look at Jungle Book and um... Wow. Your right. Practically ALL of them have mush. Oh well then. I dont like HUGE mush A little is ok... And Nope I dont like chick-flicks. It must be my boarding school no-rubbish upbringing But as you says! Everyone is different
