Ooh, Prince of Egypt is a good one. I adore the music for it. "Deliver Us" anyone? *dies* Just...the entire movie is awesome. And if we're going back to the good looking animated characters.... ;)

Yeah, but the princess/kind of princess ones are the most popular. Everyone has seen them and remembers them. I've never seen Hercules or the Hunchback the whole way through, and haven't seen Lilo and Stitch at all. Peter Pan! Captain Hook! That was a good one. And 101 Dalmatians! Oh, and the music to Fantasia. I remember that movie as being totally weird, but having such cool music.

Oh, at the store today I saw the Love Bug Collection and the Apple Dumpling collection. Hoorah for old live action! I wanted to get them, but that of course takes money. But I definitely loved their old live ones. Pre 1980, as it's decided on the Ultimate Disney website.

I love the Prince of Egypt! I used to watch it all of the time when I was little but I haven't seen it in so long...

Yup, never seen Hercules either, and just saw Hunchback this past year. It is the princess ones that are the most popular.

(Though technically, movies like Aladdin and the Lion King revolve around male main characters and are therefore not 'princess' movies.)

^Pssh. Being a princess is overrated. :teehee:

My personal favorites when I was little had almost nothing to do with princesses (except Jasmine). They were mostly of the talking animal/male main character variety. :D

So, I officially hate Disney sequels that go straight to DVD. Since I watched The Little Mermaid wth my cousins not too long ago they decided we'd benefit by watching The Little Mermaid II. *gag* I just about died laughing... and it wasn't really that funny. Remind never to watch any sort of Disney sequel again.

The Lion King 1½

Admittedly, they are not all classics or animation or even made by Disney but funded by, so please don't eat me. I just wanted to see how many I have seen.

I actually think, although sequels years after the original, is not a good idea, any sequels only a couple of years afterwards are not too bad. I quite liked the first sequel to both Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King. My problem is when a sequel appears 60 years after the original.

I also think some of the newer Disney films get a rough time. The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood and Basil the Great Mouse Dective hold just as special a place in my heart as say, Snow White or Dumbo hold for some people. I don't they deserve the reputation they get, just because there were not made in the "Golden Age" of Disney.

Some of their live action films, also do not get the reputation they deserve.

That has always been one of my personal favourites. Prince John is my hero.

And don't get me started on the mertis of Bedknobs and Broomsticks over the highly over-rated Mary Poppins. :p

My number one favourite is The Hunchback of the Notre Dame. I think the songs are really beautiful and the story has been adapted really well for Disney audiences. I also like the fact that behind this movie stick more mature themes like lust and heresy.

Other favourites of mine are Pocahontas, the Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.

It's so sad that real good Disney movies aren't made anymore.. it's like they all lost creativity.. fantasy. I think they all lost the magic. :(

I think Disney have always been at their best pretty much when they take their stories from fairy tales. I'm sort of hoping with this new batch they'll use the stories they never got round to using.

Of course, I like the films that had their own ideas, but it seems to me, generally, people like the ones with the fairy/fantasy theme more.

I loved the animated Robin Hood when I was little! I had forgotten about that one. :)

Now, I love Mary Poppins, but I agree with you JF, Bedknobs and Broomsticks is great! I'm not exactly sure how a story about a 'witch' made it into my household but my sister and I watched it over and over when we were little. :P

There's a lot of classics I've never seen, actually. Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty...

And I've seen basically no sequels to the classics. I just stay away from those. :P The only one I ever saw was a Cinderella one, I think, made recently...it reads like a fanfic, you know? :teehee:

I think the movies were meant to stand alone when they were made; therefore there is no need for anything beyond the ending. If it turns out to be good, fine, I will enjoy it, but they will forever remain separate stories to me.

There's so many movies on that list I remember loving now...The Fox and the Hound, That Darn Cat!, The Rescuers...

That's always been one my favourites if not just for Prince John. :D He is my all time favourite Disney villain. :teehee:

My memory of watching Bedknobs and Broomsticks has always been the end with all the armour walking about. That had a profound effect on me, as not only did it scare the life out of me, but it really filled me with wonder as to how they did it. I think that's one of the most under-rated Disney films ever, and that particular scene is one of the best scenes to feature special effects. And I still say (and my brother is sick of hearing this) that is B&B was made today, they would not make it look any better with CGI. B&B is made to look like Mary Poppins' poorer cousin but it's for me, actually the better film with better songs and better use of animation/live action.

Yeah, most sequels I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. The second Lion King sequel was a big mistake on my part.

I actually really like The Ugly Dachshund. It's just a fun film. I think some of Disney's live action films from the 60's and 70's are actually pretty good.

Prince of Egypt not made by Disney isn't it? ^^

I love the movie though! Great songs and great story.. the characters are just oddly shaped, they have somewhat strange proportions..

I think the best films of Disney, are basically, the princess films, so to say. They always end up saving the company (Snow White- beginning of Disney, Cinderella 1950- the Second Age of Disney after World War II, Little Mermaid- Third Age of Disney (but I must say that after Walt's death the films they made were still good: Mouse Detective, Black Cauldron, Aristocats...) and after Tarzan they went down (but in these years, some films were good: Lilo and Stitch, Fantasia 2000 and Treasure Planet) I don't like things like Chicken Little or Emperor's New Groove. Thank goodness Pixar was there to help them.

But I think that now, Disney will sure come back, see Enchanted, altough more sugary sweet than the other Princess films, it's a classic, and in my book, it's alongside Mary Poppins, Bednobs and Broomsticks and Roger Rabbit.

Next year The Princess and the Frog will be a hit. If people just stop commenting about political correctness and racism and let Disney do their job...

Oh, and I find the earlier princess films more romantic than the modern ones. Sure, maybe the relationship between boy and girl is expanded and there's girl power, but you know in those times women were looked like that: shy, dependant on men, damsels in distress, rather passive.
Anyway I must say I love both 'love-at-first-sight' and 'knowing-each-other-love', it's just that Cinderella has the best dancing secuence in Disney EVER.(hums So This Is Love) And Cindy is not that passive, she's not as naive like Snow or Aurora, and smater than them. She doesn't wait for the prince to save her. She plans it all by herself ::P:
Rather, she is kinda independant (not like Ariel, but she isn't like Snow ur Aurora, who were more innocent, like children; and she felt anger, too), and she always tries to deal with her Stepmother to let her free.

Well that's my rant about my fave Disney Princess and, for me, one of films masterpiece. Cinderella is such a piece of art. :)

My favorite animated Disney films are probably The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Beauty and the Beast...but I think I love them all.

Favorite song? You want me to pick just a few? Yeah, right! Their all awesome!

Some of the newer ones have lost the magic and the epic-ness. And don't get me started on the sequels...

The Lion King 2 wasn't too bad, though. And I enjoyed Brother Bear.

And I know it's not a Disney movie, but I love the Prince of Egypt. Especially the music...

It's been far too long since I've seen some of these movies...
