Well, of course there was never Eowyn and Grima being an item, as such, lol!

Grima was an unbearable little snake, and I can pretty much guess that Eowyn despised him whole-heartedly.

Welcome, Nerissa, I'll add you to the member list in the first post immediately. :)

And no, I didn't meant Eowyn and Grima as a couple-relationship, just because they weren't and somehow it's... unthinkable! But I just meant how they treated each other.
Which is of course from Eowyn's perspective mostly simply hatred for Grima, she dislikes him in every possible way.

Yeah, I knew you didn't mean them as a couple - see quote below :)

Well, I don't think Grima and Eowyn had a relationship as such - Grima's presence was in a way forced upon Eowyn when he came to Meduseld. I don't think that the book said much about it, apart from a small part when Gandalf tells Grima that too long has he haunted Eowyn's steps - which is where the bit with Eomer saying "too long have you watched my sister. Too long have you haunted her steps" in the film comes from.

Right, I see now. Well, in the scene Eowyn mourns at Theodred's bed and Grima comes to her, it seems he has great power over her. I wonder how he managed to influence her that much, that she actually starts believing him for a few moments before she snaps back to herself.

I'm really really sorry for not being able to post for several days lately, it was my 19th birthday in the meantime and I had loads and loads to organize! So sorry that I didn't manage to get online!

Hope you had a good birthday! :)

Yes, there's a few moments when he's speaking all this poison and she just stands there before running away.

i think that may be beacuase she has just lst her cousin, her uncle is posioned by grimas mallace words, her brother is trying to get rid of grima and she's just left there watching her world fall apart, she is bound to listen to a few sweet words at first even if they are lies, until she grips her self and sees he is a discusting creep and is trying to get arund her by being all fake!

Thank you! Yes, I had a wonderful one!

And yes, in this particular situation she appears most vulnerable. She has no one left to turn to and he appears out of nowhere, and in this moment she can not think clearly. She is too upset to notice from the beginning what he was trying to do, and instead even gives in to him during his speech, you see that in the moment his hand touches her.
But well, I somewhere read that she as well has been poisoned by his words all the time, just like Theoden. This is because she is all alone with no one to protect her like Eomer or Theodred would, and so Grima finds it very easy to poison not only Theoden, but her too in some way.

Grima really is a despisable little worm. He tries almost to take advantage of her fragile state in this scene; she's mourning for her cousin, who it seems to me she was really close to. I always thought that she wasn't wholly giving in to him here. It seems that she's both at once listening to him but at the same time trying to not listen to him. If that makes sense. And then finally, she gathers enough strength to get away from him.

I always feel sad when she runs off to outside Meduseld, she seems so lost and depressed. And then, the moment's just perfect (and we've discussed this before, but even so) she spots the three riders on the horizon. No wonder she thinks that Aragorn's the answer.

Yes, it makes sense. On the one hand she wants to believe his words in this situation, cause they just sound too enchanting and wonderful, on the other hand she tries to flee Grima's presence as her head tells her he is trying to poison her with these words. So she wants these words to be true and to listen to them, but also knows that they come from an evil person who does not want her good. Finally, her head wins then and she can break free and runs off.

Lol yup, and now our chat brought us back on how she sees Aragorn :P She probably sees him as her shining knight who would be able to free her from Grima and his poison, just as moments later he also helped free Theoden... well... with the help of Gandalf.

I don't think Grima's words sound enchanting and wonderful at all, but then that's just me lol.

I love the golden hall of Meduseld scene when Theoden is finally broken free of Saruman's spell (go Gandalf!), the expression of happiness on Eowyn's face is just wonderful, you can just feel her sense of elation that she has her uncle back. I always cry at this point

hahaha... I almost laugh at that point, because Gandalf is basically performing an exorcism and I feel like bwahahaha.... Saruman is a loser

But here's what I think --- Saruman is controling Grima like a puppet, and therefore some of his influence rubs off on Grima, and Grima poisons everyone in the Golden Hall. Since Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas are newcomers and haven't been there in a long time (if ever) then they can see what's going on with unclouded eyes, which makes it easy for them to fix the situation as quickly as they did.

yes yes, it is quite obvious sauraman is controling grima......

But he is still discusting and his own way of being horrid, i mean to get the king to banish his own nephew; now thats just really mean.

And then thoeden is to ill to know whats going on with everything, i mean until gandalf comes and cures him from grimas hold on him; does he then find out that his son is dead, to not be by your own chid while he/she dies is terrible!

As Theoden himself said, "no parent should have to bury their child." That was an incredibly sad and moving moment in the film. Grima is a despicable person, and his master simply the puppet of another more powerful figure.

I know ^_^ I was just pointing out - this is a sad moment. He couldn't do anything when he was so enfeebled by Saruman's spell, he couldn't go to his son's bedside and be with him. So he had to stand at his grave, like I was saying. His own son's grave, I can't imagine how terrible that must feel.
