Women are equal to men, and I can see why some think that means they should be drafted. But the role of the woman will always be the role of a mother. Let's face it, that's why we exsist. I don't think they should draft any woman with children under 12. But even then, I still haven't found out where there is talk of drafting...there isn't in Canada...that I know of.

Just an FYI from an un-official member ....regarding your earlier draft /service discussion.. which by the way in the US the draft discussion came up from a dusting off of the draft machine, which couldn't be ready to even test until sometime After 2010 at best, let alone use it. anways...IF a father and a mother are in the service at the same time, the Military in the USA has a policy of Not sending both parents overseas at the same time. However, I do know of a family in the west that the parents volunteered to do the same tour of duty in Iraq, so they both left their kids and went for over 6 months... but that's the exception to the rule.
(side note- I can't imagine both parents volunteering to leave the kids parentless and with relatives for that long either...I'd imagine personally that one parent home would be good... but they decided not to be apart from their spouse, over being home with their children) ahem...anyway have a lovely day everyone.

I don't think the draft will ever be reinstated. And I knew there was some sort of policy like that... but I couldn't remember.

Not in Canada either, I think. That would be a really stupid thing for any government to do, unless they we a majority government. Wait, the US doesn't have that...I probably just really confused you LOL!

@ Eä: It's interesting that you should bring that up. Whenever I read books on the Holocaust and such I hear about the women being just as abusive as the men, but it never really soaked in, until I read your post. Women were just as bad, if not worse than the men working in concentration camps. I was always under the impression that Hitler might have considered women inferior to men, and thus they could not be part of the Nazis. It's amazing [and terrifying] what people will do for the things they believe in, no matter how horrifying.

Larael I think it has a lot to do with the 'evil' in (wo)men, perhaps even more than ideology. The psychopathic gene. Many of the files on the female guards had been destroyed when Hitler was about to loose the war, so the researchers don't know how much training and ideological brainwash the female guards had (my guess is they had the same as the men, but that's no excuse). But they do know that all the women came from lower working classes and had practical no education, and they signed up for the job because of the money. Hmm but I wont jump to conclusions, since this vague fact requires a lot more research in order to make sense.
I think Hitler considered women equal to men - as long as they were Arian. In fact I think he valued women because they were the bearers of the new generation of a "clean" race. But something tells me he had a twisted relationship to women, partly based on the movie about Hitler, Der Untergang (Downfall), sort of the prostitute/madonna idea of women.
The scary thing is that violence and abuse happens also today. I don't think one of the genders are more likely to be able to do torture or excecutions than the other. I believe it is a matter of coincidence and circumstances.... but I can't figure out whether we could all do it... it's a question that bothers be a lot, but I'm not sure I would dare knowing the answer....

(I love your banners, Amoniel!)
Uh huh. This discussion has really wandered. I am too slept-deprive to think of another discussion-starter at the moment...perhaps someone else has one?

hahaha....the picture that I saw most was her and her grandchildren. But still, it's so amazing that she's got such an important role! I mean, third in line from the presidency! and I was alive when it happened. and I watched her being sworn in, albeit on the television. Makes us girls think that anything is possible.
