Would it be too early to invite them for Halloween?
I mean the mass invite has been sent out so perhaps some of the oldies just need a reminder to return. And there are a lot of things going on with Hallowfest and contests so they will return to an active forum. Only 'problem' I can foresee might be if our active members go under a Halloween disguise, but still it should be a minority. :-)

Sorry for not replying to this sooner, Eä. I like your idea though, and I think it could work. When does the Hallowfest start exactly?

I'm actually not sure if inviting them for Halloween would be the best idea. It's going to be quite busy around the forum hopefully, and for people who just want to check in and meet old friends, throwing the Hallowfest at them, might be a bit confusing. And also, from 17th-31st onwards some people are going to be under a name change - confusing for people that know everyone, but even more so for those who haven't seen members in a while.

Those are good points. Perhaps we should wait til after the Hallowfest. I don't think it'd be a good idea to try and do it before since we've only got a few more days til it actually starts.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Although, I was modding the chat for some time during the 4-5 weekend and a few people came in asking about the reunion, but no members from the forum were there.

Hmm.. perhaps there were a few oldies. That's rather disappointing that none of us were there. Would you mind sending out another forum-wide email, Kit, when we need one? Apparently they did they job somewhat...

Now that the craziness of the Hallowfest is over with I was thinking we could get this started again. Big issues we need to tackle include if we're going to do a forum-wide email again or if we're going to stick to contacting a smaller group of people, and where exactly do we want to host this thing. In the Misc. Random. board or in the chat? Or both?

We'll have to come up with a date for the new plan first and foremost. Since the holidays are coming up, that means school breaks but also less computer time for those that are on family outings or just have no time because of Christmas. I think setting it about a week after Christmas might be workable, depending on what everyone else thinks. That would give us ample time to plan it out and get invitations sent.

If we go with an After-Christmas date, I think it would be best to send out an early invitation via the forum email-system and then a reminder closer to the date. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the older members have probably changed email addresses since they've been here[I've gone through about three], which may be why we didn't get a very big turn out the first time around. Anyone that knows an old member and can contact them another way besides email should do so as soon as they know what's going on, just to make sure we notify anyone we can. Not everyone checks this board, so we can probably post Reunion announcement threads in the Misc. Randomness and Your Life sections etc. If it helps with (shameless) advertising, I'll make up some minibanners with the official date once an official date is set and we can spread the word.

As for the reunion itself, it might be better to have a thread in the Misc. Randomness section and a room in the chat set aside so that time zones aren't so much a problem. Members can check up on their old friends in different time zones via posts in the forum thread but the chat will still be an option so we don't have too much confusion and spamming in one thread. In the chat there is an option to create separate rooms, in case we want it to be separate from the main part.

^ That date has been taken down. Right now we're discussing the possibility of a post-Christmas date. :)

Date: I like the after Christmas idea. That's still during the holidays when most people are off, but the actual craziness of Christmas is wearing off. I'm thinking somewhere in the week of the 28 December - 3 January. How long would we like this event to go on?

Invites: We'll definitely be sending out a forum-wide email that way at least most people will know about it. As soon as we set an official date I will send out notices to people who are still in contact with oldies via other outlets [i.e. Facebook, AIM, etc.] so that they can contact them in case they don't receive the email.

The Reunion: I think it has been generally agreed upon that there will be a thread in the Miscellaneous Randomness board as well as a separate room in the chat.

Advertising: Ammy and TT - Please watch this thread. As soon as we decide upon a date it would be most appreciated if we could get some [shamless] advertising up around the forum. Perhaps I can talk to Kit about posting a thread about it in Your Life and Misc. Randomness.

:bye2: Just a question... I've been hearing the idea of a winter ball... is that actually happening? Because, would that interfer with the Reunion... or would we like the reunion to correspond with that?

Just me being curious, I guess... :P

I've been so out of the loop lately. What's all this about a Winter Ball? Does it correspond with Secret Santa or something? I'm not exactly sure what it is or if it will interfere/coincide with the reunion, so if anyone has info it would most definitely be welcome.

I got a few emails from old taggers[people who stuck to the tag on the front page of the site] and it looks like they're planning a winter reunion too. I'll try to rummage around and find emails for all of them, a lot of them knew people on the forum or were once members here also[like our lovely Eä]. I'll tell them to spread the word to old forumers they knew so we don't miss anybody.

So, does that date sound okay then? Or should we wait for confirmation on the dates for the Winter Ball? [If that's even happening...]

I think Dec28-Jan3 is great, Lar. I'm 99% positive I WON'T be out of town, though if that changes I'll be at another AUer's house and we'll find a way to participate.
