I utterly love Eowyn and Faramir and everything they stand for; hope, happiness and love. I think they're a so much better couple than Aragorn and Arwen. With Aragorn and Arwen, there's so much at stake to give up just to be together, but with Eowyn and Faramir it's just simple, they love one another, and that's all.

That is true. Many see Arwen and Aragorn as the most... romantic couple, just because there is so much at stake in their story. The immortality, the similarity to Beren and Luthien, the whole war... and that they found together in the end probably is more attracting to people to see it as THE love story.
I think differently, as I think that love isn't so obvious to find as in the Arwen and Aragorn story. I don't believe that you can fall in love with someone with just looking at him or her once. And so, Eowyn and Faramir seem to me to be far more realistic, and therefor I love this true love story more.

*Nods* Because Aragorn and Arwen meet when she's just walking along and he falls in love with her on sight. I don't really think that's very realistic. And of course, naturally, she's perfect with no flaws, doesn't want to go off fighting and is in practically every respect, a good girl. At least in the book anyway.
Eowyn's different; she stands up for herself and gets angry, and has real human emotions. And her with Faramir is different too; they take a while to know they love each other, and it's a gradual process.

Yes, indeed. Well, I have to admit that I generally am not a huge fan of Arwen, that is actually the fault of the movies. It disappointed me a little that they replaced Glorfindel with Arwen to help Frodo.
Well, this partly will explain why I love the story of Eowyn so much, I identify myself quite alot with her, which I can not do with elves, they simply seem to be too perfect, Arwen included.
Well, and so Eowyn and Faramir are the perfect couple to me, they accept each other as they are, with all their faults and their past, with their differences in culture and everything else, and all that counts for them is their love for each other.

I don't think that anyone could identify with a race that lives forever and is eternally young. Eowyn is a character that a lot of people can identify themselves with; her experiences are something we've all been through. Not, of course, battling with the Witchking and being healed by a king... but what her experiences kind of represent. She's been through hopeless despair, depression, unrequited love... whereas with Arwen it's difficult to really feel much sympathy for her.

True. As humans who have their faults we tend to identify ourselves rather with humans than with elves. We are seperated by far too many differences from the Elves to fully understand one of them I believe.
Just as you said, therefor humans especially like Eowyn, who are strong, courageous and noble, but have been thrown into a most saddening and moving fate, but have their happy ending tend to catch our hearts.

With Arwen's happy ending I feel more nauseous than happy for her, whereas with Eowyn I feel genuninely pleased - like jumping up and down in my seat pleased. I must admit Arwen's story is interesting, but she's so perfect. Eowyn's story is the type to make me cry - when she's standing outside Meduseld in her white dress with the wind blowing through her hair, her expression is so sad that it gets me all teary.

Well, this scene where she's standing outside in her white dress in the wind, for me it is the perfect portrait of Eowyn, it shows everything you need to understand her. She seems to be so restless, so desperate in this scene, and the wind somehow seems to me like her fate, washing over her, causing her to grieve so much, causing so much pain as well, and you somehow wish for her that it shall get better, that she finds more happiness in her life.
And, well, right in this moment Aragorn comes riding up, exactly when she needed someone to give her hope again and rid her from Grima's evil spells. No wonder she thought she was in love with him.

You put it exactly into words. This scene is the perfect one for Eowyn. She's looking out onto the plains, as if looking for something to free her from her life. She feels trapped. And then she sees the three riders hurtling towards Meduseld.
She is beautiful and fragile, but she's strong and fearless as well. She's a mix of all different kinds of traits. She's kind of a real character; she's not afraid to shout sometimes and cry and doesn't speak in an undertone whisper like her Elven rival.

Yes, she shows her feelings often quite openly, and so her weaknesses and thoughts become quite obvious to others, but still on the other hand it seems that she shuts out other people from her feelings at the same time. It's difficult to explain...

She is quite a complex character to try and explain. But that's part of what makes her so interesting.
I really like her tecnique with her sword! You know, when she's swishing it about in the great hall and Aragorn says "you have some skill with a blade". I always thought him quite patronising when he said that.

That scene is incredible! Her way to work with the sword there, the way the looked at it fascinated me. She used it almost like a beloved friend, and that also shows how much practice she had gone through.

I wish I could wield a sword, but I doubt I'd be strong enough. Eowyn is amazingly good at it. I agree, it's like she'd been using it for years.

Indeed, she is. If we only knew who taught her this! I so wish to know
Well, but on the other hand she lacks experience still, doesn't she? She has no idea about how it is to fight in a war, as Eomer tells her during their stay in Dunharrow.

Eowyn's mother could have taught her while she was still alive! That's a thought, isn't it? She could have been a shieldmaiden too and passed her knowledge onto her daughter.

Yes, that could be... well... Theodwyn died when Eowyn was at the age of 7 I believe... but still, her mother could have played a major part in the wish to become a shieldmaiden, to practice on.
